• Laura taught school for

• Laura didn’t want to teach
• In the Bouchie school she

• Laura taught ages 6-9
6. Laura and Almanzo
• Laura got married in August 25, 1885
• She married Almanzo Wilder when she
was 18 and Almanzo was 28
• There was a ten year difference between
their ages
7. Laura’s Family
• Laura had two
children
• Unfortunately one of
them died
• Her surviving child
was named Rose
because of the wild
roses that grew
around Laura and
Almanzo’s house
8. The covered wagon
• The covered wagon was invented in 1749
• They were made of buffalo skins and
wood
• Generally the kids ride in the back on the
wagon box
• Ma and Pa rode on the front seat
9. History of Covered Wagons
• Thomas Fall and Jack Dickson created
covered wagons in 1749
• They were drawn by a team of horses,
oxen, or mules
• They had hoops on the top with buffalo
skins stretched across the wooden hoops
10. The way things worked
• Whenever there was
a fire they had to use
wet sacks to put it out
• When they needed
wood for a fire they
had to chop their own
• They didn’t have cars,
but they had trains
and covered wagons

• Laura lived with her parents until she was
18
• She lived on a tree farm with Manly after
they were married
• Manly was Laura’s nickname for Almanzo
• Laura moved 5 times
• Rose moved out in 1908
