What was the nature of the specific engagement with du?Brief description of the organization: “International Horizons College (IHC) is a highly selective, two-year college based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The college enables students from the Middle East and Asia to complete their bachelor’s degree in two portions, starting with two years in Dubai and ending with two years of education at a top U.S. university. In addition to creating pathways to elite U.S. universities, IHC is in discussion with top regional schools. The college's focus is on implementing new pedagogies and leveraging sophisticated technology to advance its virtual “Global Classroom,” where students and faculty collaborate and learn with those in the U.S. and other countries. For more information, please visit www.ihc-dubai.com.”"As we looked for a campus location, a major part of our considerations in the business decision around the venue was the provisioning of IT Services. All new du infra in Business Bay was a big plus on the side of U-Bora, along with the breadth of the du offerings."

Importance/Reliance on ICT/Telco services: “Residing on the 42nd floor of the U-Bora Tower in Business Bay, we like to refer to our college as “a campus in the sky.” It is also a “cloud campus,” in that all of our software is running in the cloud. We don’t have any servers on our campus and do not plan to have any servers on campus. We made a conscious decision in setting up the college to take advantage of the emerging offerings in managed services from du and have sourced our cloud services primarily from the US.” Image by Karendalziel: http://www.flickr.com/photos/nirak/644335254/

Service considerations or issues about time and/or cost pressures at stake. Model is to operationalize the costs rather than expend the capital.
“IHC is based on a lean operational model where we are very cautious about hiring support staff if the funds can be better used elsewhere, such as to hire more faculty to teach our students.”
Can you quantify in any way the benefits of working with du (time saved, costs avoided, speed to market, etc)"The time saved, cost avoided and speed to market resulted from not having to hire a whole IT staff and set up our own servers and enterprise software. We started with Google Apps for Education and du built the network that enabled us to connect with this platform via wired and wireless on campus and with mobile platforms from virtually anywhere."

"The du services also include some very unique offerings like MVaaS + Polycom end point; Vaddio Cameras integrated with Polycom, and currently we are negotiating Managed Web Caching Engine from Blue Coat to be installed and managed by du on premises at the college. Going forward, there might be in the horizon more data hosting opportunities like blackboard, library and much more…"
The services we get from du are part of a larger ecosystem at the College. The purpose is to foster collaboration. Our local network (wireless and wired) is managed by du. Other local components of the collaborative environment come from great partners like Steelcase. This is an example of the Steelcase Media:Scape solution that features a technology-enabled furniture solution to support collaboration.

To enable in room cameras, white board functionality and document camera – all integrated with the Polycom unit – requires a good deal of complexity. Audio and video engineering all come together in the podium.

We don’t block video, we create and share video. Students, faculty and staff. The specific need or scheduling/project challenge being faced: Most places block it to conserve bandwidth (include cache engine here?)
