6. Catalonia has a long track record of environmental
projects and initiatives. As a result of the efforts done
to accomplish the European Directives it has been
acquired in the last 30 years substantial know-how
on projects to fight and adapt to climate change
risks.
The following slides show some concrete examples.
The expertise achieved is our main added value

9. Automatic monitoring of the water cycle
This network provides an information service on the state of
water in Catalonia in real time in order to improve its use and to
promote better services and the dissemination of available
hydrometeorological information.

11. Desalination plants
Desalination plant of the Llobregat
Basin
The largest in Europe dedicated to
urban supply
It has a capacity
produce up to 60 million cubic
meters of water annually
Desalination plant of Tordera
with a capacity of
20 million cubic meters of
water per year
13. Waste water treatment plants
The wastewater treatment Plant of Prat Llobregat is one of the largest
and most modern in Europe.
Capacity of 420 million liters per day
14. Waste water treatment plants
The wastewater treatment Plant of Besos one of the world’s largest
wastewater treatment plant.
Capacity of 525 million liters per day
15. Drought management plan and infrastructures
The Catalan Water Agency, therefore, aids in drawing up the Drought Management Plan, to establish a
protocol and improve the decrees on drought that have been carried out in previous years. It includes a
list of actions (measure), based on certain indicators obtained (reserve levels), which should serve as
the brainchild behind the Prevention Plan for Water Drought Conditions
18. Waste management facilites in Catalonia
• Waste minimization programmes at
the site of origin
• Waste treatment plants: dumps,
valorization plants, ecopark
20. Irrigation Infrastructures & Control Systems
Segarra- Garrigues Channel and facilities
infraestructures
The Segarra-Garrigues hydraulic infrastructure is
aimed to irrigate over 70,000 hectares of crops in
the regions of Garrigues, Noguera, Pla d'Urgell,
Segarra, Segriá and Urgel.
The infrastructure will also ensure water for 72,000
residential consumption of several municipalities
Lleida.
The power required by new network channel can also
be utilized for industrial development of the regions
involved.
