Here is a summary of our film

1. Textual Analysis of film
Our storyline consists of: a group of teenagers ( Will, Simon, Serena and Maria) enter a dangerous woodland
that has been heavily reported in via the press in the newspapers and the native teenagers enter the
woodland on a overnight camping trip and only their footage was found.
We decided on our film name by using a poll on my blog that allowed other class members to vote on their
favourite/ the most suited name for our psychological horror genre. I researched several types of genre and
did a deep analysis of each of the conventions that make up the each type of horror. Our film was based and
designed to have a similar feel/theme to the Blair Witch project as throughout majority of our film ‘The
Watcher’ we used a handheld filming technique to make our film as realistic as possible to our target
audience.
We have chosen ‘Haxan films’ to appear as our distributor and assistant producer we have chosen this film
company after research into small independent film companies. Haxan films produced films such as the ‘Blair
Witch Project’ and ‘Big foot returns’ which share similar conventions and story line to our low budget
psychological horror ‘The Watcher’. Due to our low budget most of our shots are grainy as we filmed with
analogue cameras that were of low budget and efficiently low quality that were learnt to us by the media
department/teachers.
Characters
We included 4 characters in our film two girls (Maria and Serena) and two boys (Will and Simon). We included
balanced members of sex so that both genders could relate to the characters whether they are female or
male.
Will
Will is played by me, he is a photography student and appears sensitive and sensible when it comes to life
situations. His costume consists of joggers, rain coat, hiking boats and a rucksack showing he dressed
appropriately for the camping trip and is carrying supplies for a meal or snacks for the group throughout the
night. As the film opening goes on will points on CCTV sign and appears like his personality suggests sensible
and apprehensive about the deaths and murders that have occurred in the woods. Will is in majority of shots
where it be mid shots or tracking movement reflecting his main character status.
Simon(Tyler)
Simon is played by Tyler, and in contrast to Will is cocky, arrogant and haughty towards the other characters-
the typical bad boy. Tyler is dressed in a similar manor to Will as he is dressed in walking trousers, rain coat
and hiking boots however has only provided an evening meal for himself in his rucksack and has no thought for
the other character Will. Reacting to the deaths Simon is not phrased by the CCTV or the newspaper reports
and looks upon the camping trip as a chance to protect and sleep and next the girls while on the trip. Tyler
appears in some of the shots but is the first to get separated from the group and everyone is unsure of his
whereabouts in the woodland.
Serena (Cait)
Serena is played by Cait, Serena herself enjoys nature and animals but doesn’t like the dark or walking around
at night but with the presence of Simon she feels safe and secure on the camping trip. Serena is dressed in
wellington boots, a coat and an animal hat and like Will is dressed sensibly for the camping trip. Serena is
easily scared by the deaths and asks Will a few times about the deaths when the subject arises at the gate by

2. the CCTV. Serena is in majority of the mid-shots but mostly stays behind the camera throughout the two
opening but like Will is main character.
Maria(Shakira)
Maria is play by Shakira-, Maria is a sensible character and is the more aggressive of the two girls and is lured
in by Simon’s attempts of protection and security over night. Maria outfits displays the idea that she doesn’t
care about her body warmth over night and cares more about looking good(Gillet, Nike shoes and a hoodie)
rather than keeping warm. Maria isn’t really focused on and appears quite throughout the opening and
comforts Serena while the boys try winding her up about the deaths in the woodland.
