Student Borrowing Privileges with External Libraries
Regulations:
Conestoga students from specific programs have additional borrowing privileges at external
libraries in other institutions where special arrangements have been made. Students are
responsible for adhering to the borrowing policies and regulations of participating libraries.
Misuse of library borrowing privileges will result in fines and/or additional sanctions from the
external library and/or Conestoga.
Sanctions:
If a student contacted by an external library fails to resolve issues pertaining to overdue
materials and/or fines within 10 business days, the matter will be referred by the external
library to Conestoga Library. The following sanctions will be communicated and applied:
1) The student will be contacted by Conestoga Library in writing via his/her Conestoga email.
This email will include specific information about the outstanding issues with the external
library, next steps for remedying the situation, and a deadline for resolution.
2) If amends are not made to the satisfaction of the external library by the specified deadline,
the following sanctions will be applied:
a) All Conestoga Library privileges will be suspended immediately, including borrowing and
off-campus access to e-resources.
b) Conestoga Library will advise the student’s Program Coordinator of the outstanding
loans and/or fees. Contingent to the situation, the Program Coordinator may choose to
issue a formal complaint with the VP, Student Affairs, as a violation of the Conestoga
Student Code of Conduct.
c) The VP, Student Affairs, will determine additional sanctions on a case-by-case basis until
all issues are resolved. These sanctions may include withholding transcripts, diplomas,
degrees, tuition refunds and/or academic suspension.
