Viewports & Viewport Clip
Paperspace vs ModelspacePaperspace vs Modelspace
TipsAdvantages:
• Keeps survey in a single piece
• Use publish in Map to print all sheets
• Use different layouts for boundary, key sheet,
details, etc.
• Use DVIEW to rotate the view (not the survey) to
an appropriate direction
• Lock vport as zooming in & out will change scale
• Use paperspace only for annotation that is not
attached to a physical object (e.g. lot & block,
notes).
• Keep viewports in their own non-plot layer

Process
The survey by others was an external reference to our
survey. We clipped it where we did detailed work.
The reference was for our client’s use only. It did not
show on our plots. (non-plotting layer)

Advantages
The old survey showed on their side because the
drawing was the same name and path was relative.
They could do with it as they needed.
The clip was only a mask. When we did more we
could change the clip.
