1. More and more cars painted with demons, dogs, spiders, horses, pigeons and polar
bears on hoods and doors can be seen in the streets of Kyiv. Such pictures are
made by airbrushes with special paints.
Airbrushes say that they are not overloaded with orders but the number of people
wishing to decorate their car is growing from year to year. A few years ago there
were 2-3 people who ordered such works, as for now the number reaches a few
dozen.
Nikolay, an artist, says that today’s orders are smaller in size. ‘Three years ago
people asked to decorate the whole car but now they ask to paint a part of it, hood,
for instance. It’s much cheaper. The price to paint a small picture on the bumper or
door starts from $200.
We’ve just finished painting two doves on the jeep hood. The man presented it to
his wife’.
The price depends on size of the picture and colors. Alongside with picture painted
airbrushes need to carry out preparatory works, i.e. prepare the car. The new car is
easy to prepare here (the only thing to be done is to remove gloss and make the
surface matt); however, the old ones require more complex preparation procedure,
including scraping of paint and rust . In this case the price can be doubled.
As for girls-clients they often order lions, tigers, rabbits. Dmitry Shakhov, director
of the airbrush and design studio says that ‘guys under 20 ask to paint skulls.
We’ve also had two orders from religious organizations: one car portrayed Jesus
and the devil, another one showed Jesus giving a hand of help. The latter one took
much energy and time cause the client declined 30 designs we proposed. At last,
we came to an agreement and we painted the whole car’. The boys also order
demons, saints, and their girlfriends on the hood, the price of such work starts from
$1,000.
Men of 35-40 order abstract pictures or decorations of some elements of a car body
in different colors. There are clients who want to have their interest painted on a
car. For example, reeds, frogs and wild beasts on the car help to identify the
interest of the driver, a fisherman or hunter.
By the way, if a client addresses to the airbrush studio who partners with an
insurance company, he saves his money in case of force majeure. The scratch on
the insured car allows the owner repairing the body and the picture free of charge.
