1. Cells! Created By: Sarah Marcotte and Margo Holden Prokaryotic Eukaryotic
2. The rigid protective and supportive outer layer in all plant cells, bacteria, and fungus. They are not found in any animal cells. A cell wall is like shoes because shoes protect your feet, just like a cell wall protects everything inside the cell Cell Wall
3. Cytoplasm The environment of a cell. The area where the insides Of a cell exist and float. A cytoplasm is like a float in a pool because the water is the environment in which the float lives, just like a cytoplasm is the environment where the cell lives.
4. Eubacteria A large group of bacteria having rigid cell walls. Escherichia coli Lactococcus lactis – cheese Pseudomonas aeruginosa Gomphosphaeria
5. DNA (Deoxyribonucleic acid) A very long and complex structure that holds all of an organism’s genetic material. DNA is what decides your traits and characteristics. DNA is like an architect because an architect designs buildings, just like DNA designs the characteristics of you.
6. Ribosomes The site of protein creation within a cell. A ribosome is like a farmer because a farmer a farmer creates crops, just like ribosomes create products for the cell.
7. Cell Membrane The protective layer of a cell. It controls things entering and leaving the cell. It is flexible. A cell membrane is like a pencil box because a pencil box protects the pencils, just like the cell membrane protects, everything inside the cell.
12. Archaebacteria unicellular organisms that are prokaryotic but that differ in certain physiological and genetic features from bacteria, the most prominent prokaryotes. Found in hot boiling water halomonas sp Found in hot springs Thermophilic Archaebacteria
13. Nucleus The area of the cell that contains the genetic material (DNA). It contains all the functions and activities of the cell. A nucleus is like a referee because a referee controls The game, just like a nucleus controls all the functions In the cell.
14. Mitochondria The organelle that provides usable energy for the cell using raw materials. Mitochondria is like a cell phone charger because a phone charger gives out the energy to make the phone work, just like the mitochondria gives the energy to the rest of the cell.
15. Chloroplasts The organelles are responsible for converting the energy Obtained by the chlorophyll molecule into the usable form of glucose (sugar). A chloroplast is like a car motor because a car motor gives the car energy to work, just like chloroplasts converts energy for the cell. Chlorophyll - Any of a group of green pigments found in photosynthetic organisms. Photosynthesis in a chloroplasts
16. Vacuole The storage compartment of a cell. The vacuole can store food, water, or waste, until it is needed. A vacuole is like a locker because it stores all your school supplies until you need them, just like a vacuole stores food, water, and waste, until it is needed.
17. Golgi Body The area of a cell that packages cell products and ships them out of the cell to where they are needed. A golgi body is like the internet because the internet sends emails, just like a golgi body sends “packages” to where it’s needed in the cell.
