Aimery Sieur d’Arques : Languedoc / AOC Limoux Main varietals White: Chardonnay, Mauzac Red: Syrah, Merlot, Grenache, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon… Aimery Sieur d’Arques is one of the leading wine organizations in the Languedoc region. Considered a pioneer in Languedoc-Roussillon in terms of quality of production and wine-growing techniques, La Cave des Vignerons du Sieur d’Arques was one of the first wineries in the eighties to develop plot-based selection in its 2800 hectares of AOC vineyard. Their terroir which benefits from the Mediterranean sun, tempered by the proximity of the Pyrénées mountains and the influence of the Atlantic Ocean, combines the ideal conditions for producing great wines. 2008 sales in sparkling AOC wines: 5,8 million bottles 2008 sales in still wines: 8,2 million bottles

Roc d’Anglade – Languedoc The wines from the village of Langlade, close to the city of Nimes (east of Languedoc), once had a reputation comparable to the wines from Bourgogne – which they were often compared to- up to the XIXth century. Langlade wines were served at the table of Louis XIV in Versailles. The 1850’s Philoxera then destroyed the 600Ha of vines that belonged to the “Cru de Langlade”, including the local’s memories of the area’s great potential. 200 private cellars out of a village of 600 souls. All gone. Remy Pedreno, a grandson of spanish immigrants, switched overnight from computer engineering to winemaking and chose to settle there thirteen years ago. By pure intuition. After partnering with Michel Rostaing from the Rhône for the first four vintages, he now owns 10Ha in the area. Intuition is Rémy’s guideline. Including in the choice of the right date of harvest or the duration of fermentation. Intuition, taste and Humility. Rémy’s dream of bringing Langlade wines back to life has become reality. In the past 10 years, six more winemakers have settled in the village. The next step is to obtain an AOC Langlade to give justice again to one of southern France’s greatest terroir.
Roc d’Anglade– Wine selection Varietals: carignan (the base of the red wine), Mourvèdre, Grenache, Syrah. Cinsault. Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay, Grenache Gris, Carignan Blanc, Maccabeu. Terroir: very diverse, chalk-dominant soils. Silicieous, clayey and very fine limestones with a majority of north and east-faced plots. Ideal spots to express minerality, complexity and freshness. In the vines: Organic culture, pruning being instrumental in the vigour of the vine. Harvest: no maturity analysis. Taste of the grapes is enough. To avoid too much maturity is always in mind to maintain the finesse. In the cellar: short macerations. Fermentation is the purpose, not colour or tannin extractions. Large wooden vats or casks are used for ageing, in a rocky underground cellar. Each plot is aged separately and then blended during the second winter in tanks, before spring bottling. Roc d’Anglade Blanc Vin de Pays du Gard Chenin Blanc 90%, Chardonnay 10% Roc d ‘Anglade Rosé Vin de Pays du Gard Cinsault, Carignan Roc d’Anglade Rouge Vin de Pays du Gard Carignan, Mourvèdre, Grenache, Syrah 18-20/20 15/20 JANCIS ROBINSON, December 2008 About Roc d’Anglade white 2006: « An absolutely unique wine. If it was written Montrachet on the label, one would pay four times the price. »
Domaine des Grécaux – Languedoc - Terrasses du Larzac « Alain and Isabelle Caujolle-Gazet have been farming the rocky, chalky slopes above Montpeyroux (plus one small piece above Saint-Jean-de-Fois, where their tiny cellar is located) for more than a decade, although I first experienced their wines with the 2006 and visited for the first time last December. The components of their 2007 Terra Solis had not yet been assembled when I tasted there, but all displayed a beautiful combination of ripeness, concentration, and brightness, promising a wine not to be missed. » (Robert Parker – 2007) A small cellar in the heart of the touristic Montpeyroux village. 2 rows of resin tanks amongst a nice little mess. Only two oak barrels visible. Alain Caujolle stopped ageing his wines in oak 3 or 4 years ago. “useless when you’re looking for fruit ands freshness around here” he says. The grape is ripe enough”. Three different type of parcels and soils at Grecaux: rolled stones and red clay on lower terraces, chalk and clay and finally schists and rolled stones on the Garrigue plateaux. Some yields as low as 5 to 10 Hl / Ha for some of them. One of the Grecaux’s secret remains in very long ageings in the resin tanks: from 20 to 32 months. Deep silky tannins, profound licorice, black olive palate. Extraordinary complexity and fabulous lengths. The wines from Grecaux are rare jewels (app. 15000 bottles/year) but deserve to be amongst the Grands Crus du Languedoc.
Domaine des Grecaux – Wine selection Terra Solis 2007 AOC Languedoc – Terrasses du Larzac Grenache, Syrah, Carignan Vinification and ageing: Long, separate vinification in resin tanks (16 to 24 months) Tasting: black fruits with a smoky nuttiness, licorice, crushed black olive and overall freshness. Very subtle and accomplished blend, very surprising according to the food it goes with. You don’t have to pair Languedoc wines with game and red meat. 91/100 (2006)
AOC Languedoc Pic St Loup The Pic Saint-Loup area backs up against the start of the secondary slopes of the Cévennes hills in the Garrigues area north of Montpellier, 30 km from the Mediterranean coast. The Pic Saint-Loup (658 metres) and the Causse ( limestone plateau ) de l’Hortus (512 metres) dominate the skyline with altitudes of about 150m. The vegetation, well suited to summer draughts, is made up of various typical mediterranean essences: Holm oak, Kermes oak, Aleppo pine, arbutus, juniper as well as thyme, laurel, cade, rosemary, cistus, all of which can be found in the Pic Saint Loup wines’ palette of aromas. Soils: s oft limestone, conglomerates, dolomites, fallen river or cryoclastic limestone, marl. Climate : The “water factor” directly influences the behaviour of the vine . Sufficient winter rain restores the soil’s water stocks which, with limited rainfall in summer, result in a moderate draught, favourable to quality. Also, wide temperature variations (hot summer days, chilly nights) give freshness to the grapes. Grapes: Over the past thirty years or so, the vineyards have been virtually all replanted with 3 main grape varieties: Syrah, Grenache and Mourvèdre. Grenache:A big lover of heat. gives fat, round, rich wines. Syrah: Its typical aromatic nature make it the dominant variety. Finally Mourvèdre, a more demanding variety known for its nobility and power, brings the wines interesting structure and good ageing potential. When combined with Syrah and Grenache, it gives the wine its capacity for maturation and longevity. Carignan and Cinsault, the Appellation’s complementary grape varieties, can also be found in the blends of certain wines. Mas Bruguière - AOC Languedoc Pic St Loup The Bruguière family is a dynasty of vintners in the Pic Saint Loup region since …1259! Guilhem Bruguière was one of the pioneers of the Pic St Loup terroir from the end of the 70’s, when he started planting the relevant varietals that have defined the Pic Saint Loup wines eversince: Syrah, Mourvèdre and Grenache. Since 1998, Guilhem’s son Xavier, has joined his father on the estate and brought the highest quality process to the vineyards and the cellar. They share this common sense of finesse in their winemaking. Wine from this estate has been made following organic farming practices since 2003. The aim is to respect the terroir and local environment while better preserving the particular freshness and minerality of the wines grown in the Pic Saint Loup area .

AOC Languedoc Terrasses du Larzac Soil :  Geologically very varied : stony clay and sandy soil, red soil ‘ruffes’ in horizontal layers - muddy limestone dominated by high Jurassic limestone cliffs. Along the Hérault : stony cryoclastic limestone deposits with pebble covered terraces rising above the river banks. Climate : The zone’s climate has wide temperature variations but its distance from the sea and proximity to the Causse means it enjoys relatively cool summer nights. These result in the grapes maturing slowly and steadily, which is beneficial to their colour, whilst also encouraging the wines’ aromatic qualities and fresh characteristics. The average altitude is between 80 and 150 metres rising to a maximum of 400m in the commune of Saint Privat Grapes: Syrah, black Grenache and Mourvèdre (60% minimum) ; Syrah, Grenache or Mourvèdre limited individually to 75% and Syrah and /or Mourvèdre 20% minimum, Cinsault (30% maximum) and black Carignan. Mas Cal Demoura - AOC Languedoc - Terrasses du Larzac « Burgundy-trained Vincent Goumard and his wife Isabelle took over this estate from retiring founder Jean-Pierre Jullien in 2004, and have developed a wide range of new acreage, all of it close to their base in Jonquieres, and thus in one of the most promising sectors of the Terrasses du Larzac. The red raw materials here are impressive, with the complexity of ripe flavors achieved in Syrah of only around 13.5 % alcohol especially notable, and destined to « cool down » the final blends. » (Robert Parker – 2008) In the Occitan language, « Cal Demoura » means « we have to stay ». In the late 70’s, when the Languedoc vintners left their estates abandonned, Jean-Pierre Jullien (Mas Jullien) had made these few words his mojo. He remained and created the « Cal Demoura » estate in the 90’s, a concentration of his best Terrasses Du Larzac plots, betting on high quality and respect for the terroir. He now holds a prominent space in the Languedoc wine History. in 2004, Isabelle and Vincent Goumard took over, added up new plots in the nearby Combariolles plain, an incredibly deep rocky calcareous marl soil, giving very mineral wines. They now own 11 Ha, will be certified organic in 2012 and work hard to produce wines that reflect the specificity of the Larzac terroir: power yet finesse, minerality, great acidity, hence great ageing potential.

Chateau Tirecul la Gravière – Monbazillac Main varietals: Muscadelle, Sémillon Some centuries ago Monbazillac was considered as one of the world’s most refined and precious sweet wine. Decades of neglecting and forgetting the unique know-how made Monbazillac lose its confidence, its reputation and worst of all, its quality. But not its terroir.. People like the Billancinis are still few of a kind but their fantastic effort to bring their Monbazillac domain to a renaissance since 1992 will hopefully inspire more and more to do the same. They own 9 hectares in a unique setting, with a microclimate, steep slopes that optimize drainage, north and east exposures, giving out the best in freshness and finesse. Their vines are split in half between Semillon and Muscadelle . When it comes to winemaking, Bettane said in the Bettane and Dessauve guide: “ their cellar and the technique and discipline they implement should be a model for all sweet-winemakers around the world”. As for the farming, Tirecul is under reasoned agriculture, with only organic manure used. The domain is in the process of converting to organic farming for 2011.

Chateau Combel La Serre AOC Cahors The “french Malbec” Main varietal: Malbec Malbec has grown in the Cahors region for more than 2000 years. It may give beautifully coloured, fruity reds, with rich tannins, tailored for ageing, given it is mastered by the winemaker. Chateau Combel la Serre has been in the Ilbert family since 1900. Jean-Pierre and his son Julien run the domain together. They own 26 hectares of Malbec in the upper stages of the Cahors region. In 1998, they have decided to start producing their own wines and stop selling the grapes to the local “coopérative”. Since that date they have produced an extremely refined Cahors, bringing the features of the Malbec to their best. The soils at Combel la Serre are mostly argilo-calcareous marls which enable tannins of great complexity and finesse.
Chateau Combel la Serre – Our Selection Coeur de Cuvée made from 30 year-old vines 100% malbec Raised in oak barrels (20% new oak) for 12 months. Coeur de Cuvée 2005 was awarded one star in the Hachette Guide 2009 Cuvée Prestige The vines are 35 year-old plots on argilo-calcareous soils. Rollan de By - Médoc Main varietals White: Gros Manseng, Petit Manseng, Sauvignon Blanc, Ugni Blanc Red: Tannat, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon Rollan de By was an estate created 15 years ago with the aim to give justice to the northern Medoc wines. Since then, Chateau Haut Condissas (in 1995), Chateau Tour Seran (in 2000) and Chateau La Clare (in 2001) have come along. These estates together with Château Rollan de By the estates account for a total of more than 85 hectares under production. The philosophy of the company is to respect the environment while returning to a traditional yet modern vine growing    The average annual production of the estates is 500 000 bottles.
Chateau Rollan de By AOC Medoc Cru Bourgeois Soils: Clayey-chalky brows dating from the quaternary period Average vine age: 35 yo Cultivation: Rationalized cultivation policy using disc, thinning out leaves and green harvest. Yield: 50 Hl/Ha Harvest: Handpicking, collecting in small crates, sorting and de-stemming at the cellar Vinification: maceration for 3 days at 10°C. fermentation in stainless steel vats w/temperature control system for a perfect extraction of colour and aromas. After the fermentation, the wine is kept in the vats for up to 3 weeks before it is heated up to 30gC (86gF) and put into oak barrels. This improves the extraction thus giving the wine more structure and complexity. The malolactic fermentation is achieved partly in new barrels (50%). Traditional egg white fining and no filtration. Ageing: Stirring of the lees in barrels for 3 months. 12 months in 100% new French oak barrels. Oenology/ consultant: M. Ricardo COTARELLA / M. It had all the qualities that make an excellent vintage: exceptionally dark opaque colors, gorgeously ripe fruit, stunning purity, great freshness and remarkable density as well as concentration. In some cases, there are wines as profound as 2005. In short, the vintage is vastly superior to 2007, 2006, 2004, 2003, 2002, 2001 & 1999." Robert Parker

88/100 Domaine de l’Oriel– Alsace “ Weinzorn’s 2006 l’Oriel is a blend of roughly equal parts Riesling, Pinot Gris, and Gewurztraminer, with 10% Muscat. A perfumed, complex nose of peaches, rose petals, smoked meats, sea breeze, and sauteed mushrooms leads to a palate performance that nicely balances juicy generosity with opulent ripeness and a subtly oily texture. The finish here is nutty, smoky, saline, and honeyed, with lingering peach and malt flavors nicely underscored by discreet sweetness. I have never visited Claude Weinzorn (the name of whose late father still appears on the estate’s label) but a couple of his less expensive offerings are well worth seeking out.” E-Robert Parker.com 2009 AOC Alsace: Riesling, Pinot Gris, Muscat, L’Oriel ( Riesling, Pinot Gris, Gewurzt and Muscat blend ), Gewurztraminer, Pinot Noir AOC Alsace 1 er Cru: Riesling gd cru Sommerberg, Riesling Gd Cru brand, Pinot Gris Gd Cru Sommerberg

  • 18. Mas Bruguière – Wine selection La Grenadiere AOC Languedoc - Pic St Loup Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre Aged: in oak for 14 months Les Mûriers AOC Coteaux du Languedoc 80% Roussanne, 20% Marsanne Aged: 8 months (80% steel / 20% oak) L’Arbouse AOC Languedoc - Pic St Loup Syrah 55%, Grenache 45% Aged: 12 months (50% in concrete, 50% in oak° 91/100 94/100

  • 43. 88/100 Domaine de l’Oriel– Alsace “ Weinzorn’s 2006 l’Oriel is a blend of roughly equal parts Riesling, Pinot Gris, and Gewurztraminer, with 10% Muscat.
