– Battle Fatigued staff
– 5 radio stations, 3 control boards
– Some things coming out of the speakers that needed to be
addressed
– Lack of focus and “mission” in many departments
– Infrastructure that was falling apart and lacking
– Frayed Community & Client Relationships
– Selling in the month, until the last day of the month
– “Good Enough” was accepted as the standard
• “It’s TOO HARD”
– Settled for second best
– Initiatives
– Everything ran through the GM Office
6. End of 2014 Update
• What have we accomplished so far?
– A definition of our “Mission”

• Not just “making a sale”
• Talent and more talent and more talent
• Coach and develop the talent
• Cleaned up our “interactive” act
• NO Initiatives … NO, NO, NO
– One Initiative: Create Long-term Customers
• A real process for how we’re going to do it

customer service (and getting more results for long-term
customers)

for GROWTH

smoothly

the future
• Promotions / Events / Marketing: Do Some
17. End of 2014 Update

through the GM’s office … (or another
manager’s office)

ends NOW
No More Monkeys
18. End of 2014 Update
• My role (and the other manager’s roles):
– Set the vision and mission (Me = Company &
Managers = Department)
– Hire, retain, and coach talented players
– Process & Accountability
– Make sure there’s enough cash to pay bills
20. End of 2014 Update
• Make the competition hurt economically
– Nothing happens until there’s pain in the wallet
Don’t really want to hear about other guys’ ratings, packages, low rates, etc. It’s just
a distraction – we beat them by hurting their profits & force changes. It happened
here over the past 10 years.
21. End of 2014 Update

Don’t get distracted from the mission and the game plan.
Focus on the strategy and what’s important and we’ll win.

around) at a brand new building
27. End of 2014 Update
