2. When We Start? When We Start?
The first internet café (telecenter) in Indonesia
is a real restaurant in the middle of a Botanical
Garden in Bogor, 60 KM from Jakarta, using a
dial-up modem with speed 14,400bps to
Jakarta-ta on 1 July 1995
Why we built Internet
Café? ….
• Telephone line is
very limited and
expensive
• Internet access is
expensive
• Population of
computer owner is
small
• Nobody knows about
internet
3. Decrease in ServicesDecrease in Services
Services within Telecenter has dropped every year, because cellular operators
already provide the same services to the same customers of Telecenter, and
they give a better solution and have full mobility
4. Access to ContentAccess to Content
Concentrate on Internet Access only and let them choose content on their own
5. Build Internet AccessBuild Internet Access
In 2009, we built 6,000 PLIK (similar
to telecenter) and 2,000 MPLIK
(mobile telecenter) serving 76,000
villages all over Indonesia to provide
internet access with small bandwidth
because at the time we only had
satellite technology.
6. ICT in IndonesiaICT in Indonesia
We never think about how to develop ICT-based content

7. Type of ContentType of Content
In the beginning we are very
excited with web technology
that can merge texts with
photos that provided a very
appealing look to websites.
Now technology goes beyond your
dreams as photos are switched to high
definition videos which need a big
bandwidth (broadband)

11. RepositoryRepository
To overcome big
bandwidth or
broadband that can't
be delivered to rural
areas in Indonesia, we
add a device to store
video and image for
people browsing at
telecenters without
depending on slow
connection of internet.
12. UbiquityUbiquity
We collect books, pictures,
videos and internet
knowledge that later can
be accessed easily from
telecenters and we will
convert them into local
languages if necessary. This
content is accessible from
any type of device.
13. Big PortalBig Portal
Built a portal to
collect all
information to
telecenters or to
