Creating, Formatting, and Editing a
   Word Document w/ Pictures
 Enter text in a Word document
 Check spelling
 Format paragraphs & text
 Undo / Redo Commands
 Changing theme colors
 Inserting & formatting pictures
 Add a page border
 Document Properties
 Quick Access Toolbar – very top left of screen
 Ribbons – these take the place of the menu bar
in versions of Word previous to 2003
 Document Area – this is the document you are
    working on
 Status bar – this bar is at the bottom of the
window and has several different pieces of
    information
 This bar is customizable by the user.
 Click on the down arrow at the end and select
    the commands used most
 Popular commands that are added to this
toolbar are: undo, redo, save, print, print
    preview, and spell check.
 There is no right or wrong commands to have –
    it is a personal preference.
 There are 8 different ribbons that can be
    selected.
 Each ribbon is represented by a tab
 The home ribbon contains the most used
    commands
 Each ribbon is broken up into different groups
    – ex: font, paragraph, styles & editing are all
    groups on the home ribbon
 The status bar contains several pieces of
information: Page being worked on, word
count, view buttons, and a zoom slider
 Three parts to a flyer:
 Headline – first line of text
 Body Copy – all text between first line and last line
 Signature Line – last line of text
 Text and graphics are inserted to the left of the
vertical blinking line called the Insertion Point.
 As the user types the insertion point moves
 In order to move the insertion point to the next
line the user must hit the enter key
 The computer assumes the user is starting a
new paragraph when the enter is press so the
first letter of the first word is automatically
    capitalized by spell check
 A character that Word displays on the screen,
but is not visible on a printed document.
 These marks show key commands such as the
space bar and enter key being pressed. The
image on the next slide is an example of
    formatting marks.
 Formatting marks are generally used for
commercial printing – it allows users to know
when the enter key or other command keys
    have been used
 The backwards P symbol after the word dog
below signifies the enter key has been used.
 A dot in between words indicates the space bar
    has been pressed
 These marks can be turned on and off by
    clicking here:
 Wordwrap is what allows users to continue
typing line after line without hitting enter
 When using old fashioned typewriters users
had to hit enter at the end of each line – with
wordwrap that is no longer needed.
 As the user types Word continuously checks
    for misspellings and grammar errors
 Misspellings are underlined with a red wavy
    line
 Grammar issues are underlines with a green
    wavy line
 A blue wavy line indicates the misuse of a
word such as too, to, and two
The image to the left shows the word
Founs is incorrect. To correct it you
may right click on the word (insertion
point must be in the word) to get
                  suggestions from Word’s dictionary.

In addition to the red wavy line the
spelling and grammar check icon on
the status bar will show a red X. If all
is correct in the document it will show
a blue check. Examples are to the
right.
There are several ways to get around a Word document. There is no right
or wrong way, it is the preference of the user. The image below and next
slide explain how to move around a document using the keyboard.
