Sts should learn to think in L2 ASAP
The purpose of language learning is
COMMUNICATION

Conversational activities are a must since the
sts may use L2 in natural and real contexts
Grammar should be taught INDUCTIVELY
The syllabus is based on topics and situations
Learning another Lg involves learning about
the culture and living in those countries where
L2 is the native lg.

DM?
To teach sts how to communicate
effectively in L2, to do so they need to
think in L2 (critical thinking, challenging

They do the class together since they both
have to participate and communicate using
L2
5. What does DM emphasize?
It emphasizes vocabulary over grammar,
communication over reading
What about evaluation?
Evaluation is also direct, it means the tch
asks and the sts answer, the tch asks them
to write a paragraph and then both check
it and correct it

learning/teaching process?
Meaning association
Use of realia, pictures or pantomime

Vocabulary practice is done within complete
sentences
7. Reading aloud (passages, short texts, etc)
Q & A exercises (oral or written)

8. Which levels do you think GTM and DM
are more appropriate?
To teach vocabulary in 5th and 11th
grade… which method would you use?
Why?
What resources do you need to teach each
method?
Which method suits you better? Why?
9. Create an activity for teaching vocabulary
and grammar. Include the objectives of
the activity and the closing of it
(checking). You may use GTM or DM but
without telling the class which one, so
your classmates will discover it and discuss
if it was or not the most appropriate one.
