Congo Rainforest lies along the equator in Central Africa. The Congo River winds through the area. Formally known as Zaire, the Democratic Republic of the Congo is currently in a civil war that has lasted for over a decade and claimed the lives of over a million people—the largest war since WWII.

Today, there are estimated to be merely 170,000-300,000 chimpanzees left in Africa, and their population is decreasing rapidly.
