The Spring Festival is the most important Chinese festival where families get together like Christmas. People clean their homes and decorate with calligraphy before the New Year comes. The lion dance is a spectacular event during this time, believed to bring good luck and dispel evil. Common foods include New Year cake and tangyuan, symbolizing progression, unity and prosperity. The color red and lantern riddles are also significant parts of the celebrations.

Before the New Year comes, people
completely clean the indoors and
outdoors of their homes as well as their
clothes, bedclothes and all their
utensils.
They also begin decorating their rooms featuring an atmosphere of
festivity with the Chinese calligraphy pasted on all the doors panels,
to wish for a bright future and good luck for the New Year.
