Indian Removal

so we were running out of room
The idea was we should kick the Indians out and take
their land
3. Andrew Jackson negotiated 8 out of the 11 negotiations
His dealing in these treaties made him very popular
4. In 1823 congress decided that Indians could live In
America but could not hold title to the land
This change absolutely nothing except it would let
America to continue taking the natives lands
5. They tried both war and peace
They won neither of them
6. In 1830 president Jackson proposed the Indians
removal act which forced all Indians to leave their
eastern territory for western territory
7. In 1831 the Cherokees pleaded to the court and won
their court case but president Jackson refused to up
hold the law
8. The Seminoles were a tribe that resisted and after 3
bloody wars that cost the government 60 million
dollars. Eventually we just paid them to leave
The creek tried to resist but we crushed them and
forced them to leave without sighing the treaty
9. This majorly affected the Cherokee
The government tricked the Cherokee into a false
treaty and despite a protest of 15,000 Indians, they
were forced of their land at gun point
10. America forced the Indians off ‘our’ land
