6. Indian Removal Act

soldiers the right to
forcibly remove any Native
Americans east of the
Mississippi River.

8. The Black Hawk War
Seminole Guerilla Warfare

Future president Abraham Lincoln
was one of the lieutenants leading
the battle against the Indians.
This was a quick loss

1837Seminole chief Osceola
was taken captive two
years after the war
began; the war
continued for five years
after that.
In 1844 the Seminole Indians fled
deeper into the Everglades. The rest
were taken to a reservation in
Oklahoma.
