TOURISTS ATTRACTIONS IN
SOUTH AFRICA
GRADE:10

PRESENTATION
BY:RABUTLA MMAPULA
OUTCOMES
• State South Africa’s tourist information relating to climate,
rainfall, capital cities, main languages, airports and harbours in
tourism context.
• Identify Tourists attractions in the provinces of South Africa
under the following headings: Location (proximity to the nearest
city or town), short description (main focus of this attraction and
a few points of interest).
GETTING THERE

Direct Flights from USA:
South African Airways – New York to Johannesburg (Duration 14-16 hours)
South African Airways – Washington DC to Johannesburg (Duration 14-16
hours)
WEATHER

South Africa's climatic conditions generally range from
Mediterranean in the south-western corner of South Africa to
temperate in the interior plateau, and subtropical in the northeast. A
small area in the northwest has a desert climate. Most of the country
has warm, sunny days and cool nights. Rainfall generally occurs
during summer (November through March), although in the
southwest, around Cape Town, rainfall occurs in winter (June to
August). Temperatures are influenced by variations in elevation,
terrain, and ocean currents more than latitude.

EASTERN CAPE
ADDO ELEPHENT NATIONAL PARK

The Eastern Cape has a diversity that
extends across landscapes ranging from
the desert of the Great Karoo to the
pounding waves of the Wild Coast. The
selection of adventure includes the
world’s biggest waves, the only snow
slopes on the continent, and the highest
bungee-jump in the southern hemisphere.
The highlights of the Eastern Cape are
without doubt the various game reserves,
the Grahamstown National Arts Festival,
and the surfing capital of Jeffreys Bay.

CAPE TOWN
TABEL MOUNTAIN
Cape Town is the second-most
populous city in South Africa, and the
largest in land area. Cape Town is the
legislative capital of South Africa,
where the National Parliament and
many government offices are located.
The city is famous for its harbour as
well as its natural setting in the Cape
floral kingdom, including such wellknown landmarks as Table Mountain
and Cape Point. Cape Town is also
Africa's most popular tourist
destination.
JOHANNESBURG
SOWETO
The largest city in South Africa,
Johannesburg is also the wealthiest
and, without doubt, the economic
powerhouse of Africa. Johannesburg,
Jo’burg or Jozi is a booming,
happening city. There are over 6000
trees in Johannesburg, making it the
largest man-made forrest in the world.
Excellent hotels, outstanding shopping
and world class restaurants.

NORTH WEST
SUN CITY
Just over 2 hours from Johannesburg,
lies one of the world's most unique
resort, the internationally acclaimed
Sun City. There are four world-class
hotels including the magnificent
Palace of the Lost City. The 2 world
famous golf courses also offer a unique
golfing experience. Adjoining the
Resort, is the beautiful Pilanesberg
National Park, which will delight game
viewers as it is a malaria free zone and
home to the "Big 5" (Buffalo,
Elephant, Leopard, Lion and Rhino).
LIMPOPO
KRUGER NATIONAL PARK
The largest game reserve in South Africa,
the Kruger National Park is larger than
Israel. Nearly 2 million hectares of land
that stretch for 352 kilometres (20 000
square kilometres) from north to south
along the Mozambique border, is given
over to an almost indescribable wildlife
experience. Certainly it ranks with the best
in Africa and is the flagship of the country’s
national parks - rated as the ultimate safari
experience.

Adjacent to the National Park, various
famous private reserves are available i.e.
Sabi Sands, Timbavati etc.
KZN
DURBAN BEACH FRONT
Durban is one of the fastest-growing
urban areas in the world. Its port is
the busiest in South Africa and also
one of the 10 largest in the world.
Durban is blessed with balmy weather
all year round, making it a perfect
holiday paradise. The beachfront is
bordered by five star hotels and luxury
apartments, all of which have an
idyllic view of the Indian Ocean.
