2. “HYPERCALC-EMIA”
Condition of excessive calcium in the blood
Develops when body fails to balance intake of calcium
Can cause disruptions in muscle contraction, hormone
levels and brain functioning
Prone to post-menopausal women due to their
hyperactive parathyroid gland
Lung/breast cancer patients, tuberculosis/sarcoidosis
patients
Taking calcium supplements can also cause this
condition
Not drinking enough water can cause mild cases of
hypercalcemia
Little to no symptoms
3. “POLY-DIPSIA”
Non-medical condition where patient displays
excessive thirst
Not a disease but evidence of a disease state
A symptom of anticholinergic poisoing
Found in diabetic patient’s (initial symptom), or
those who fail to take their anti-diabetic meds
Can be caused by a change in osmolality of the
extracellular fluids of body, hypokalemia
(decreased blood volume), and other conditions
that create a water deficit, like osmotic diuresis
