• Also called a flat plate abdomen
• Diagnostic imaging procedure
• Radiograph of the abdomen
• No dyes, no pain
• Images of structure, size, & position
• Detect stones, tumors, & obstructions
• Procedure
• Lie on back while radiograph is taken, usually takes
5 minutes
• Results can be read immediately

• Visually examine the urinary bladder through the use

• Hematuria, dysuria, or urinary tract infections
• Blockage caused by prostate, kidney stones, or
tumor

• Retrograde Ureteropyelogram, Retrograde
Pyelography, Retrograde Ureteropyelography
• Diagnostic imaging procedure
• Radiograph to visualize the urethra while the patient
is voiding
• Contrast dye is placed in the bladder
• Often used during a cystoscopy
• Used to:
• Identify filling defects caused by stones or tumors
• Place ureteral stents
• Identify renal anatomy

• Test to measure kidney function by the levels of
