THE COMMONS
(SYNDICATED CONTENT)
Content hosted on author’s
site (or 3rd party location)
Syndicated to Modern Poly
via. RSS Feed
Original author credited –
links back to their site
Diverse content for us / more
traffic for them (win-win)
6. Started with Elgg in November 2009
Transition to Drupal in Summer 2010
Massive (& frustrating) database transfer
Learning curve for new (but easier to use)
platform
Need to re-assess needs/usability of site
7. Bridge between “brick and mortar”
poly groups and online community
Discussion boards
Personal profiles
Event Calendar (iCal feeds in/out?)
Photo albums
File shares (documents / brochures)
Skill-share (?)
8. Lack of up-to-date directory of poly groups
Several resources with overlapping lists
Updated sporadically
Changes in info dependant on site owner
Need for site with
Information updated in near-real-time
Visitors able to contribute info on their own groups
Ability to collect additional data (research before
visiting)
9. Version 1.0
Collecting group data
▪ Contact information (email / website)
▪ Demographics
▪ History
▪ Membership Requirements
Geographic map
Text directory
10. Version 2.0 (in early development)
iCal feeds from group calendars (no RSVP system)
RSS feeds from group blogs
Easy to navigate layout
Group/region statistics more accessible
Regional Liasions
Version 3.0 (dreaming)
Tools / Community for local organization leaders
11. Poly House Party
Result of Poly Leadership Network Summit
Joint project with Loving More
Foster camaraderie in local communities
Build awareness about polyamory
Raise funds to support organizations
Spring 2011 (Weekend datesTBD)
13. Topics brought up by participants
Revise/upload existing poly group resources
(some of us have “Poly 101” brochures or guides on
starting/upkeeping poly groups)
For e-zine “Commons” section, find a way to tag
content so readers know if source site may have more
explicit content (vs. “family/teen friendly”
Emphasize that polygroups.com is about identifying
local polyamory groups/resources
14. (Continued)
In development of community site, separate “experience share”
(here’s how I live my life as poly) from “skill share” (here’s how I do
x, y, and z)
Find alternative options for event management/notification (for
nextTown Hall)
Follow-up with participants regarding options for gathering
resources (volunteers and funds)
Consider developing a 501(c)(3) – One participant commented that
having another polyamory based nonprofit doesn’t necessarily pull
potential funds away from existing organizations – it allows
individuals who may not identify with existing org’s to have
another outlet to donate to.
