3. Mobile Payments: Technology track ...
(NFC) Phones:
• NFC capable phones are slowly entering the market but:
• So far only available on the high-end models.
• Non NFC alternatives available at lower price.
• Conclusion: mass market penetration is not a short term given.
• Smart phone penetration however is gaining considerable proportions:
• Low installed base
• 35% of new sales
• Handset life cycle of 1.5-2 years
NFC SIM:
• No clear specifications available yet.
• Complex selection and certification process.
• Need OTA platform.
• TSM selection.
• Setup of processes and procedures
Applications:
• Exponential growth of mobile applications and downloads:
• iTunes: March 2012: 550k applications, 25mio downloads.
• Market: Feb 2012: 450k applications, 10mio downloads.
• Adoption of new services is driven by availability of applications. Slide 3
4. Mobile Payments: Our long term vision.
• Launch a mobile hybrid wallet.
• Combination SIM- and cloud based elements to build the wallet.
• Option for SIM renting to partners.
•Secure element on SIM:
• Build a strong position in the domain of mobile wallet.
• Business potential on SIM hosting.
• SIM is a unique identifier.
• No need for additional identification process at role-out.
• Easier handset swap.
• Co-existence of multiple applications is possible through the different secured domains.
• International benchmark shows NFC will be the future technology for contactless payments.
• Align with (de facto) NFC payment standards (Paypass – MasterCard, Paywave – VISA)?
• EMV compliance.
• Intermediate solution with NFC tags is possible (market education).
• High value payments could be part of the mobile wallet payment experience .
• Support of multiple payment schemes could be included (MC, VISA, BC/MC...).
• Micro payment from wallet (PingPing scheme) – macro payment using other schemes.
• Standardization effort to be realized on:
• NFC implementation (e.g. Protocol, handset integration, ...)
• SIM “hostelling” and key management
