Markets ended marginally lower amid
volatility extending the fall for fourth
straight day dragged by metal and auto
shares. However, value buying in financials
and index heavyweight Reliance Industries
helped cap the downside. The Sensex closed
lower by 23.78 points at 26,813.42 and the
50-share Nifty slipped 4.45 points at
8,130.65. The India Meteorological
Department (IMD) yesterday said that
conditions are favorable for onset of
southwest monsoon over Kerala during next
48 hours. In the currency front, the rupee was
closed at 64.00 to the US dollar compared to
the previous close after foreign funds turned
net sellers in domestic equities tracking
overseas gains in the US currency.

NMDC rolls over existing prices as iron ore sales
decline
The public sector iron ore miner, NMDC Limited, has
rolled over the existing iron ore prices to June month in
anticipation of demand growth even as the off-take from
the domestic steel sector remained subdued in the past
couple of months. The same price levels will continue
until the pricing committee reviews the prices possibly in
the next month. Meanwhile, the production and sales
volumes for the first two months of the current year have
shown a decline.
Govt asks Reliance Power to restrict Sasan coal output
The government has asked Reliance Power to restrict
production from its coal mines in Moher and Moher
Amlohri Extension blocks - linked to its Sasan ultra mega
power project (UMPP) - to 16 million tonne per annum
(MTPA) from the current 20 MTPA. The government last
month had taken away one of the the three coal blocks
allocated to Reliance Power's Sasan project in Madhya
Pradesh. The Supreme Court had scrapped allocations of
204 coal blocks last year.
