Representations in the Psychological Thriller-
Representations of Crime
•PSYCHO- Criminals are seen to be punished for their crimes- Norman Bates being
arrested at the end. Killing people is seen as bad- this was due to the restrictions set by
the Hays Code (1934).
•Even though there is a focus on the criminal (Marion Crane) she is still punished for
stealing the money by being killed.
• SEVEN- Focus more on the law enforcers- but juxtaposes the law enforcer and
breaker- the similarities between John Doe and Lieutenant Somerset are highlighted.
•The criminal wins in the end of the film- the people who get killed seem to deserve what
they got- (the lawyer was punished for his greed).
•There is no 'good' narrative conclusion- the 'bad' guy win out in end.
•Law enforcers are seen as flawed characters.
