Your
job…is
to
be
on
the
lookout
for
special
words
in
the
section
you
read.
Here
are
some
reasons
for
choosing
a
word:
*interesting
*powerful
*new
word
*funny
*$100
word
*important
*different
*exciting
*difficult
*strange
Remember:
1) Choose
at
least
4
words
per
section
to
share
with
your
group.
2) Copy
down
the
sentence
the
word
is
in.
3) Enclose
it
in
“quotations.”
4) Underline
the
word.
5) Write
an
explanation
of
why
you
chose
the
each
word.
6) Explain
the
meaning
in
your
own
words.
(i.e.,
NOT
copied
from
the
dictionary!)
Example:
Pg. 92 “It isn’t his fault that his father hates foreigners” I picked this word because it is a
$100 word. It was also difficult to say and to spell. Foreigners are people who come from
or live in another country.
When
you
meet….
1) Help
everyone
to
find
the
sentence
in
the
book
before
you
read
it
aloud.
2) Explain
why
you
chose
the
word.
3) Ask
if
anyone
thinks
they
know
what
it
means
from
context
clues.
Let
them
guess.
4) Read
your
definition.
5) Ask
if
everyone
agrees
on
your
definition.
(If
not,
look
it
up
in
another
dictionary.)
6) Have
the
group
grade
you
on
the
rubric.
