to the 1940’s where the subgenre was first
recorded.
In theory, this subgenre was established years
before the 40’s. As poems would be presented
as a song or chant, sometimes accompanied
by a musical instrument, such as the harp.

artists that wrote and performed their own
lyrics from Bob Dylan to Ed Sheeran.
