Thank You for a Great Year!
  $375, $375, $375. $375
Thank you to Ernesto’s Mexican Restaurant for donating a portion of what we spent during
the football viewing season, back to our club! They were the most gracious hosts and now
they are even paying us back $375 to apply towards scholarships. GRACIAS

              Show Me The Money!
              by Angela Stringer

Did you pay your dues and buy and sell some raffle tickets? If so, then you may be wondering where our
money is being spent. Well, let’s recap some of our expenses. As you know, our largest fundraising effort is
the condo raffle. This year we sold approximately 500 tickets at $2 each. That covers the money given to our
  annual scholarship recipient of $1,000.

Our game viewing raffles, which were more popular than ever this year, brought in another $461. This money
along with our annual dues allowed us to get our new website up and running, serve a meal at Ronald
McDonald House, adopt 2 Salvation Army Christmas Angels and provide 2 holidays meals for families. We
also maintained our good standing with the FSU Alumni Association ($400) and the FSU Booster Club ($300).

We received $375 from our agreement with Ernesto’s. We are hoping that money as well as the condo raffle
money this year will allow us to potentially award two $1,000 scholarships next year. Be on the look out for
those raffle tickets soon. The more you sell, the more students and charities we can help.

2010 Scholarship Recipient Message
By Loriann Schmidt
From the first day I stepped on campus in August I have been loving every
moment at Florida State. It is everything I imagined and so much more. If I
didn’t bleed garnet and gold before arriving at FSU, I surely do now. I didn’t
miss a home game and couldn't have been more proud to be at Doak
cheering the Seminoles to a victory over the Gators this year. While at
Florida State I plan on studying Exercise Science and am a member of the
Honors program. Aside from my studies, I am making the most of my time at
Florida State having joined, Phi Mu, one of the 16 sororities on campus and
playing on the FSU club field hockey team.

I love Florida State University. I know that this will not just be a love I will
have for the next four years but rather it will be a life long love. I have always
said I was born to be a Nole and being at Florida State has shown me I can’t
image being anything other than a Florida State Seminole. I am so blessed
to have the chance to make my dream of being a "real" Seminole come true
and I thank the Seminole Club for being a part of this dream. I feel so
honored to have been selected as the 2010 scholarship recipient from the Lori 2010 scholarship recipient &
Kentucky Seminole Club. Go Noles! Juliann 2005 scholarship recipient

Kentucky Seminole Condo Raffle
Your Kentucky Seminole Club is always looking for good community service projects and possible fund raising
ideas. As you know, we would love to give more than one $1000 scholarship to the deserving kids from
Kentucky who attend FSU. At our last board meeting, Tom O'Sullivan graciously offered to give an Ultralight
Airplane flight to someone in the club - as part of a fund raising idea! Wow - what a cool proposal. That idea
blossomed into a plan to have a silent auction at our summer picnic on July 31 with the plane flight as the "Big
Prize".

You are welcomed to donate something for the auction - doesn't have to Seminole related. How about a basket
for avid gardeners? Or something with a beach theme? Or wine-lovers? Movie night? You get the picture!
Contact Susan, susankreps@aol.com or Angela, thestonesrule@hotmail.com with your auction donation.

We will let you know what will be auctioned and you can place your bid - even if you can't attend the picnic.
Please make sure we have your email address and watch for more information at our web site,
Kentuckyseminoles.com. This gives us one more reason to look forward to a great get -together this summer!
Hope you can participate!

                        Silent Auction This Summer!
It's that time again - soon you'll be receiving raffle tickets in the mail for a chance to win
a weeks stay in a condo in Orlando, (or just about anywhere). Last year's winner was from
New Mexico... and for a small fee, she transferred from the Orlando condo to one in Las
Vegas! A $2 raffle ticket can sure go a long way! Please remember that the proceeds from this
raffle are our way to sponsor our scholarship to Kentucky kids attending FSU.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kentuckiana is in the midst of a mini-crisis regarding their Program. That crisis
involves the numbers and makeup of their volunteer corps. Currently the percentage of Big Brothers (as opposed
to Big Sisters) signing up to mentor young men in need of role models is only thirty percent. On the flip side of
this coin is the percentage of young males (as opposed to young females) signing up in the hopes of finding an
important role model in their lives. This percentage is seventy percent. It doesn’t take a mathematical giant to
figure out that these numbers don’t work.
As a result, the Kentucky Seminoles Club is putting out a request to it’s members, especially it’s male members,
to perhaps step up to the plate and offer a helping hand to a youngster in need of the example and guidance that
a true Seminole can offer.
No matter your schedule, no matter your timetable, with that will there’s a way. You would be amazed how time
constraints and scheduling problems can be overcome when you truly set out to help another individual –
especially a youngster. And from experience I can assure you, in many ways you get back more than you give to
such a relationship.

2011 Seminole Football Preview by John Torsky
Where to begin? To say things are going well in Seminole Country right now is an understatement. The Football,
Men’s Basketball, Women’s Basketball, and Baseball teams are all clearly moving in the right direction.

Coming off a 10 win season including beat downs over instate rivals Florida and Miami plus a win over South
Carolina in the Chick-fil-A Bowl, the Seminole football team is looking to become a force on the national scene
once again. Coach Jimbo Fisher and his staff didn’t take a break at all once the season came to and end. They
landed 12 of ESPN’s top 150 prospects and hauled in the top ranked recruiting class in the country. Jamie
Newberg, ESPN’s recruiting analyst put it this way, “Over the past 2 years no team in the country has brought in
more talent than FSU”. This year’s talented class is lead by elite players such as RB James Wilder Jr., S Karlos
Williams, OT Bobby Hart, and TE Nick O’Leary.

Men’s basketball made the NCAA tournament for the 3rd year in a row, earning a 10 seed. Despite star forward
Chris Singleton missing a number of games with a broken foot, FSU finished 3rd in the ACC standings this year.
Once again the highpoint of the season was a 66-61 victory over #1 Duke in a game broadcast by ESPN with Dick
Vitale calling the game from a packed Tallahassee-Leon County Civic Center. The Seminoles are known for
playing some of the best defense in the country. They held their opponents to just 36.4 percent shooting, the best
in the nation. They finished the regular season with a 21-10 overall record and 11-5 mark in the ACC. It may
surprise you but Coach Hamilton’s team is actually the 3rd winningest team in the ACC over the past four years.
This is no small feat considering the basketball history and pedigree of the ACC.

The Florida State women's basketball program has already become a mainstay in the NCAA Tournament. Now the
Seminoles are setting a yearly trend by earning high seeds, too. FSU is a 3rd seed for the second year in a row.
This is FSU’s school record seventh consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance. Coach Sue Semrau’s team
ended the regular season with a record of 23-7.

Summer is right around the corner and FSU’s boys of summer are already rolling. FSU’s baseball team is
currently ranked 4th nationally and holds a record of 15-1, including a victory over top-ranked Florida. The Noles’
pitching staff is anchored by All-American Sean Gilmartin. The junior has started the season 4-0 with a 1.24 ERA
and 35 strikeouts to only 3 walks. Senior outfield Mike McGee not only leads the team with a .411 batting average,
19 RBIs and 3 HR, he also doubles as the team’s closer with 3 saves and 2.25 ERA.

Needless to say, it’s a very good time to be a supporter of FSU. Go Noles!

Ernesto’s In Review
                                            By Tom O’Sullivan

We’ve recently completed our first full season of Seminole Football Viewings at Ernesto’s Restaurant on
Shelbyville Road in Middletown. And what a season it turned out to be! Jimbo seems to have the program
back on the road to regaining the glory we once enjoyed and the glory we so certainly deserve.
Ernesto’s has been a step up in terms of the food and drink selection, their TV “satellite drop” allows
transmission of all our games, and the facility itself seems perfect for our needs - it’s location is fairly
centralized and we have plenty of room for the gang, with a degree of privacy that we have not had in the
past.

There have been a few observations that the food selection, while extensive, is confined to a Mexican theme
and that perhaps we should consider moving our viewing location around during the football season. This
consideration was discussed at the last Board meeting and the unanimous conclusion was that all in all, we
are better off meeting at the same place. It saves on possible confusion and allows us to retain our ten
percent return on food purchases – the arrangement we currently have with Ernesto. As a result, the plan is to
continue our Viewings at Ernesto’s for the 2011 Seminole Football Season.

We encourage all members of our Kentucky Seminole Family to join us for our Viewings next Season and to
bring along other folks – folks who are not lucky enough to enjoy the experience of the “Garnet and Gold”.
Go Noles!!

I am so blessed to have the chance to make my dream of being a "real" Seminole come true and I thank the Seminole Club for being a part of this dream. I feel so honored to have been selected as the 2010 scholarship recipient from the Lori 2010 scholarship recipient & Kentucky Seminole Club. Go Noles! Juliann 2005 scholarship recipient 2
  • 3. Kentucky Seminole Condo Raffle Your Kentucky Seminole Club is always looking for good community service projects and possible fund raising ideas. As you know, we would love to give more than one $1000 scholarship to the deserving kids from Kentucky who attend FSU. At our last board meeting, Tom O'Sullivan graciously offered to give an Ultralight Airplane flight to someone in the club - as part of a fund raising idea! Wow - what a cool proposal. That idea blossomed into a plan to have a silent auction at our summer picnic on July 31 with the plane flight as the "Big Prize". You are welcomed to donate something for the auction - doesn't have to Seminole related. How about a basket for avid gardeners? Or something with a beach theme? Or wine-lovers? Movie night? You get the picture! Contact Susan, susankreps@aol.com or Angela, thestonesrule@hotmail.com with your auction donation. We will let you know what will be auctioned and you can place your bid - even if you can't attend the picnic. Please make sure we have your email address and watch for more information at our web site, Kentuckyseminoles.com. This gives us one more reason to look forward to a great get -together this summer! Hope you can participate! Silent Auction This Summer! It's that time again - soon you'll be receiving raffle tickets in the mail for a chance to win a weeks stay in a condo in Orlando, (or just about anywhere). Last year's winner was from New Mexico... and for a small fee, she transferred from the Orlando condo to one in Las Vegas! A $2 raffle ticket can sure go a long way! Please remember that the proceeds from this raffle are our way to sponsor our scholarship to Kentucky kids attending FSU. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kentuckiana is in the midst of a mini-crisis regarding their Program. That crisis involves the numbers and makeup of their volunteer corps. Currently the percentage of Big Brothers (as opposed to Big Sisters) signing up to mentor young men in need of role models is only thirty percent. On the flip side of this coin is the percentage of young males (as opposed to young females) signing up in the hopes of finding an important role model in their lives. This percentage is seventy percent. It doesn’t take a mathematical giant to figure out that these numbers don’t work. As a result, the Kentucky Seminoles Club is putting out a request to it’s members, especially it’s male members, to perhaps step up to the plate and offer a helping hand to a youngster in need of the example and guidance that a true Seminole can offer. No matter your schedule, no matter your timetable, with that will there’s a way. You would be amazed how time constraints and scheduling problems can be overcome when you truly set out to help another individual – especially a youngster. And from experience I can assure you, in many ways you get back more than you give to such a relationship. • 4. 2011 Seminole Football Preview by John Torsky Where to begin? To say things are going well in Seminole Country right now is an understatement. The Football, Men’s Basketball, Women’s Basketball, and Baseball teams are all clearly moving in the right direction. Coming off a 10 win season including beat downs over instate rivals Florida and Miami plus a win over South Carolina in the Chick-fil-A Bowl, the Seminole football team is looking to become a force on the national scene once again. Coach Jimbo Fisher and his staff didn’t take a break at all once the season came to and end. They landed 12 of ESPN’s top 150 prospects and hauled in the top ranked recruiting class in the country. Jamie Newberg, ESPN’s recruiting analyst put it this way, “Over the past 2 years no team in the country has brought in more talent than FSU”. This year’s talented class is lead by elite players such as RB James Wilder Jr., S Karlos Williams, OT Bobby Hart, and TE Nick O’Leary. Men’s basketball made the NCAA tournament for the 3rd year in a row, earning a 10 seed. Despite star forward Chris Singleton missing a number of games with a broken foot, FSU finished 3rd in the ACC standings this year. Once again the highpoint of the season was a 66-61 victory over #1 Duke in a game broadcast by ESPN with Dick Vitale calling the game from a packed Tallahassee-Leon County Civic Center. The Seminoles are known for playing some of the best defense in the country. They held their opponents to just 36.4 percent shooting, the best in the nation. They finished the regular season with a 21-10 overall record and 11-5 mark in the ACC. It may surprise you but Coach Hamilton’s team is actually the 3rd winningest team in the ACC over the past four years. This is no small feat considering the basketball history and pedigree of the ACC. The Florida State women's basketball program has already become a mainstay in the NCAA Tournament. Now the Seminoles are setting a yearly trend by earning high seeds, too. FSU is a 3rd seed for the second year in a row. This is FSU’s school record seventh consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance. Coach Sue Semrau’s team ended the regular season with a record of 23-7. Summer is right around the corner and FSU’s boys of summer are already rolling. FSU’s baseball team is currently ranked 4th nationally and holds a record of 15-1, including a victory over top-ranked Florida. The Noles’ pitching staff is anchored by All-American Sean Gilmartin. The junior has started the season 4-0 with a 1.24 ERA and 35 strikeouts to only 3 walks. Senior outfield Mike McGee not only leads the team with a .411 batting average, 19 RBIs and 3 HR, he also doubles as the team’s closer with 3 saves and 2.25 ERA. Needless to say, it’s a very good time to be a supporter of FSU. Go Noles! 2011 Seminole Football Schedule Date Opponent / Event Location Time 09/03/11 vs. Louisiana-Monroe Tallahassee, Fla. • 5. Ernesto’s In Review By Tom O’Sullivan We’ve recently completed our first full season of Seminole Football Viewings at Ernesto’s Restaurant on Shelbyville Road in Middletown. And what a season it turned out to be! Jimbo seems to have the program back on the road to regaining the glory we once enjoyed and the glory we so certainly deserve. Ernesto’s has been a step up in terms of the food and drink selection, their TV “satellite drop” allows transmission of all our games, and the facility itself seems perfect for our needs - it’s location is fairly centralized and we have plenty of room for the gang, with a degree of privacy that we have not had in the past. There have been a few observations that the food selection, while extensive, is confined to a Mexican theme and that perhaps we should consider moving our viewing location around during the football season. This consideration was discussed at the last Board meeting and the unanimous conclusion was that all in all, we are better off meeting at the same place. It saves on possible confusion and allows us to retain our ten percent return on food purchases – the arrangement we currently have with Ernesto. As a result, the plan is to continue our Viewings at Ernesto’s for the 2011 Seminole Football Season. We encourage all members of our Kentucky Seminole Family to join us for our Viewings next Season and to bring along other folks – folks who are not lucky enough to enjoy the experience of the “Garnet and Gold”. Go Noles!! Mark Your Calendars Sunday, July 31 Florida State was picked to win the Atlantic division at Gary and Susan Kreps the annual ACC Football Kickoff and anything less 10814 Taylor Lake Rd. would be a disappointing Goshen 40026 season. Seminole Nation expects big things now! Time - TBA Saturday, September 3 1st Game of 2011 Season! Viewing Party at Ernestos 10620 Shelbyville Road Time - TBA 5
