7. Turn Signals Eye contact: Remember even though you may make eye contact with a motorist that does not mean they see you. Use multiple signaling methods when riding to ensure safety. Pointing: Clearly indicate to motorist where you intend to ride by pointing. You may use this method instead of using hand signals in certain situations. Scanning: Before changing course or taking a turn look over your shoulder. This is a good way to assess the traffic situation and indicate your intentions to motorists behind you. Bicycling as Transportation: This course will cover the basic knowledge and skills that are essential to using your bike as a form of transportation. Topics covered will include; how to do a quick maintenance check, choosing a route, the Rules of the Road, general bicycle safety, turn signals, proper lane positioning when riding in traffic, locking your bike, essential commuting gear and putting your bike on the bus or train. Riders of all skill levels are encouraged to attend.
