Home Time Management and Cooking—FAQs Part 1
I'm sure someone else can benefit from these questions so I thought I'd make a video…
My husband and I work different shifts. We have two kids who are in 4th and 6th grades. Fixing meals at a decent time is a nightmare because when I get home it’s already late (6:00 p.m.). I’m tired of the drivethru life. Is there hope for me?
The first thing I would suggest you do is sit down during the weekend and think about the coming week.
Second, create a one week menu. Try to plan at least a couple of leftover meals such as spaghettibeef-a-roni or roastbeef pot pie. If you have a crockpot you could put something on either overnight or for while you’re gone to work.
Third, shop ahead on the weekend so you don’t have to worry about that during the week.
You need to get this under control because you can’t control your home time management without controlling how you cook. Period.
I get stuck in the same old rut of cooking the same old things over and over. My family complains that they want something different but I’m at a loss because I just can’t seem to think beyond the dozen or so meals I’ve always cooked.
This is a pretty common problem. After all, we are creatures of habit and when is habit more useful than when we don’t feel like doing something (e.g., the hard work of coming up with new meals)?
Get past your mental block that you can’t come up with more than just the normal fare. Try thinking about all the foods you like to eat when going out. How about the food you grew up eating? Do you have friends who cook yummy meals and you could snatch their recipes?
Let the family know that change is on the way and make sure that it is.
