3. The Allied powers who defeated Nazi Germany in World War II divided the
country west of the Oder-Neisse line into four occupation zones for
administrative purposes during the period 1945–1949.
BERLIN was located TOTALLY inside the area controlled by The Soviet Union.
BUT because of its symbolic importance as the capital city of the former
Nazi government, the city of Berlin was split up for control by all 4 of the
Allied powers
