The virtual memorial is here! With the advent of new technology such as QR
codes and mobile websites, you can now remember your loved ones and share
these memories all over the world.
QR Codes – Virtual Memorials:
A QR Code, once scanned on a person’s Smartphone, takes them to a mobile web
page that can have as much information as you want about your loved one and
their life. You can include videos, memorial services and programs, as well as a
photo and text biography of their life.
Poems, letters and personal touches can be added to the page contributing to the
wonderful memories that can be shared. You can even have a page that allows
visitors to add their own pictures and memories so all can share their thoughts
about the life of the deceased.

QR codes are being engraved on gravestones, plaques and given out at memorial
ceremonies as a very special way to remember those who have passed on.
Instead of having high printing costs, you can give out cards with the QR code that
can offer memorial programs, hymns, photos and videos.
Those attending the funeral or memorial can scan the QR code with their
Smartphone where they will be taken to a page with a full program of the day’s
ceremony plus songs, video, text and other media.
Funeral Videos:
If required, Multi Media Memorials will develop your funeral videos and
remembrance videos to be can be shown at the funeral or service and then added
to the deceased person’s web/mobile page.

Invocare Use QR Codes in Australia:
The Sydney Morning Herald recently reported on the recent use by Invocare, the
large, publicly listed company that has 14 cemeteries and crematoria in Australia
is to introduce virtual memorials and QR codes to their list of services to the
bereaved.
Trailblazing with QR Codes:
Excerpt from the Daily Telegraph
“QR codes, which act like supercharged barcodes storing a significant amount of
information linking Smartphone users to online sites, could soon be appearing in
cemeteries near you.”
Queensland is already capable of following US, UK and European trends where
they appear on headstones linking to videos, pictures and web stories on the life
of the deceased person.
Albert Deboer, of monument maker Forever Shining, said laser etching and
printing meant QR codes could be put on local tombstones now… “It’s very much
under-utilised at the moment,” he said. With research company Telsyte predicting
12.2 million smartphone users in Australia this year, QR codes could soon be on
every type of surface imaginable.”
