The main function of a drive belt on a Murray riding lawn mower is to turn the grass cutting blades and drive

hours of use. In view of the fact that Murray does not have a complicated system, replacing the drive belt
should be a simple and easy task that should not take more than an hour to accomplish.
Replacing the drive belt on a Murray riding lawn mower will prevent the lawn mower from feeling slow. The
replacement only requires a few strategic belt arrangements and placements and the lawnmower will operate
better than it did before. Hiring the services of a professional to install a new belt will cost you between $20
to $70 determined by the model of mower you have. Since, replacing the drive belt on a Murray riding lawn
mower is relatively easy, installing a new belt on your own would be a better choice and will also help you save
money.
In order to replace the drive belt, one should begin with disengaging the blade rotation control. Once that is
done, put the lift lever in level position and then remove the hair pins from the two rear suspension arms.
On the suspension links, one might find hair pins and washers on either side of the top of the mower housing,
these need to be pulled out from the suspension links. After which, one is required to extend the spring
towards the blade control shaft that holds the blade and controls their movement and remove the hook from
the hole.
Take off the front hanger from the axle support and remove the old drive belt off the stack pulley. From the
right side detach the housing from underneath the lawn mower. You will be able to notice a smaller pulley on
the right-hand side of the much larger jackshaft pulley and is known as the idler pulley, you need to open the
belt retainer of the idler pulley and undo the belt from around the idler pulley. One should then do the same for
the jackshaft pulley by pulling the brake pad away from the pulley and slide the belt out of the opening.
One needs to wrap the new mower drive belt around the jackshaft pulley and the idler pulley by putting back
the belt in the belt retainers and lastly, place all the Murray riding lawn mower parts back in its place.
