Massive Open Online Course
What is Mooc?


Mooc stands for massive open online course.



It is a model of content learning online to any person who wants to
take a course regardless of the distance and with no limited
attendance.



A MOOC is a model of educational delivery that is, to varying
degrees, massive, open, online, and a course.



Most MOOCs are structured similar to traditional online higher
education courses in which students watch lectures, read assigned
material, participate in online discussions and meetings, and
complete quizzes and tests on the course material.



They are typically provided by higher education institutions.
Importance of mooc


It helps discover how people learn through taking online courses.



The course presented a unique opportunity to discover more about
how people learn in large open networks, which offer extensive
diversity, connectivity and opportunities for sharing knowledge.



Help people to connect and interact via networks.



The more autonomous, diverse and open the course, and the more
connected the learners, the more the potential for their learning to
be limited by the lack of structure, support and moderation normally
associated with an online course, and the more they seek to
engage in traditional groups as opposed to an open network



cMOOCs are the connectivist model. Not instructor based, but
network based. Students connect with one another, and engage in
a process of social meaning creation. Learning goals and objectives
are not prescriptively defined, and students navigate their own way
through the coursework. Exploration and communication are key,
and testing and assessment are difficult.



xMOOCS are linear, student’s follow a particular defined trajectory,
and the course is instructor based though the instructor based may
mean following the path laid out by the instructor, but with no
access to the instructor otherwise.
