1. Question 2Question 2How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary
text
TRAPPEDTRAPPED
2. Movie TitleMovie Title
I chose to name the tile of my film ‘TRAPPED’ this was chose as the tile,
because it makes the audience think what could the storyline be based
upon, it intrigues them and wants them to know the definition to behind
trapped, to as why they are trapped. It subliminally draws the audience
in to then watching the trailer, and growing an interest and then they
will then want to watch the movie to see the motive behind the trailer
and which character is in the wrong and which character is ‘Trapped’
I kept a theme going throughout the naming of the title as in each of the
media product I had wrote the title in large capital letters, because is it
wrote in large capital letters it draws the audience attention to the tile of
the film instantly and makes it memorable.
I had gone against the codes and conventions by changing the colours of
the tile in each of the media products, the reason I had done this is
because I had one similarity with the titles therefore I wanted to make it
different and more memorable and interesting therefore I decided to
change the colour of the text in each to black to give an urban feeling,
Red was used to show love and heartache, whereas white was to show
blankness and unawareness.
Another theme which is ongoing through the media products I have
created is the background colours they are all of a gloomy faded red, the
reason to this was because I wanted people to get negative vibes from
the media products, because negativity and evilness draws the attention
of the audience who my film media products where targeted at which
was teenagers and young adults
3. ActorsActors
On my poster and magazine instead of using one main character I
chose to use two different characters, here I have gone against he
codes and conventions of media products. The reason to which I did
this is because throughout the trailer these two characters are arguing
continuously therefore I decided to use one of them for the poster and
the other for the magazine cover, this shoed that they are both
powerful and the main characters of the film, this makes both the
actors memorable, and people will become familiar with the actors of
the film.
As you can see in the images both the characters have an evil look to
them, which will make the audience think who is really the evil
character and which character is mislead into being trapped by the
other.
I believe this was a clever idea as it keeps the audience thinking about
who is really trapped, it gains there attention and this makes them
then take an interest in the film, and once the film is released they will
come to watch the film, which is the whole idea of each of these media
products, to target the audience and persuade them through different
media products ti come and watch the film.
In both of the two ancillary text I chose not to use close up images, this
is because I wanted the audience to see the body language of the
actors because the body language shows a lot of emotions and this will
give the audience many ideas of what both characters could be like and
what kid of role they play
4. Theme and DatesTheme and Dates
Theme
The ongoing theme which I kept between the trailer and the ancillary text was
the colours used, I used dark colours and they were not that bright e.g. dull
reds, blues black and whites, these colours where ongoing form the clothing to
the background in each of the products the reason for this is because I wanted
to show the grime theme, which is a genre which is not colourful and bright, it
is quite a monotone genre where everything is similar. I tried to imitate this in
my products by not having many actors and using minimum colours, and the
colours which where used where dark to give an urban feeling.
Dates
In my media product I decided to use the date instead of ‘coming soon’ this is
because I wanted to make sure the audience was aware of the release date of
the film instantly, I didn’t want them not knowing so they were not kept at
complete suspense as the film keep them at the suspense therefore I decided
to give away the release date in the trailer, which I had then also reflected on
one of the ancillary texts which was the poster.
5. Unique Selling Point (USP)Unique Selling Point (USP)
There is many unique selling points which I have used within my media products which I have
created. The Unique selling points which I have created was a sticker for the magazine, the
entertainment company which was involved with the making of ‘TRAPPED’ and also on the poster I
included ‘ From the makers of Kidulthood’ I also included the actors name at the start and end of the
trailer.
The reason to which I had created the sticker was to draw in the audience to wanting to win tickets
to the premier of trapped what this does is if they win tickets, they will then persuade their friends t
come along to watch the films, and their friends will have to pay for tickets to watch the film, this is a
very easy yet sneaky way of selling your film to the audience.
I used revolver entertainment because revolver entertainment are linked with the urban genre and in
the urban culture revolver are a well known entertainment movie producing company, therefore this
would attract the audience as they know it is form a successful entertainment company.
I included ‘from the makers of Kidulthood’ as this film was extremely successful in the urban grime
genre, and this is the same genre as my film, therefore if they were produced by the same makers it
means that trapped would also be just as good, and this would draw in the target audience to watch
the film.
The actors name is a unique selling point, as the actors names are all completely different form each
other and what the audience will grasp from this is that they are all form different backgrounds and
this will draw in a larger audience of
teenagers and young adults from different
backgrounds and cultures to come and
watch as from the actors names you can
see that the film will be quite diverse and
of mixed ethnicities.
