PURPOSE: Base-wide announcement of the 2013-2014 Misawa Motorcycle Season
COMMANDER’S INTENT: Preserve resources and personnel by limiting the Misawa
motorcycle riding season during the winter weather months.
BACKGROUND: IMPLEMENTATION:
1. Winter weather at Misawa AB is unpredictable and can lead to rapidly changing road
conditions. The effects of freezing temperatures combined with even light precipitation can be
extremely hazardous for motorcycle riders.
2. Street motorcycle use by SOFA status personnel will be suspended after forecasted or
observed weather at Misawa AB contains any precipitation and temperatures below 35° F for
three consecutive days. Regardless of weather conditions, street motorcycle use will be
suspended between 1 Dec 13 and 31 Mar 14. Suspension notification will be made via basewide email, the Commander’s Access Channel and the 35 FW Facebook page.
3. Motorcycle riders are expected to exercise good judgment and increased caution for rapidly
changing weather and road conditions. Personnel on leave or TDY to areas without riding
restrictions may operate motorcycles at those locations, if they have met all motorcycle training
and licensing requirements.
