Getting Rid Of Heartburn: Simple Tips And Tricks
Do you experience acid reflux? If you aren't sure, you'd be surprised how it can present itself. Yes,
there's the heartburn, but there's also nausea, bloatedness, and even a lump in your throat. This
article will tell you more.
Do not eat dinner within the three hours prior to going to sleep. When you are upright, any food in
your stomach and the gastric acid settles down in your stomach. When laying down, the acid may
climb back up. That is why you should wait a few hours prior to sleeping.
Drink only a few hours before or after a meal. This also helps you get rid of hunger pains.
Additionally, if you drink separately from eating you will find that you don't suffer from bloating and
acid reflux as much.
For Additional Information About Acid Reflux
To sleep well at night and prevent acid reflux, you may want to place a wedge underneath the
mattress in order to keep your head raised. Other things you can try are books, blocks of wood or
anything that can help angle your mattress up. If money isn't a problem, you might even invest in a
special bed with lumbar controls.
Acid reflux disease can be aggravated by stress. When your stress level is too high, the stomach
produces more acid than normal. Each meal should end with some relaxation, without lying down.
This may be meditation, yoga, reading a book, watching television, etc.
Some foods are much more likely to cause acid reflux than others. You'll want to limit consumption
of these foods to prevent acid reflux. A few foods that frequently cause problems are tomatoes, milk,
alcohol, acidic juices, coffee or spicy foods.
Eat smaller meals, several times a day. Eating just a couple large meals makes it more likely that
you will suffer from acid reflux symptoms. An overly full stomach puts too much pressure on the
muscle that closes the stomach. This can result in excess stomach acid, and it can cause heartburn.
You should eat smaller, more-frequent meals during the day.
Slippery elm lozenges are optimal to help with your acid reflux. Slippery elm bark, the main
ingredient in these natural lozenges, coats your digestive tract in a protective layer. It can also help
relieve any coughing reflux may cause. You can find them at most health food stores.
Try to avoid overly fatty foods. This means you should eliminate fried foods, fast food and red meat
or at least reduce the quantities of unhealthy foods you eat. Get in the habit of checking labels
before you buy food.
A great way to prevent acid reflux pain is to eat slowly, pausing regularly to assist in proper
digestion. Take some time to enjoy your food. Don't stuff yourself. Stop eating before you become
too full.
You need to cut down on spicy foods, especially at dinner time. This includes Indian dishes, Mexican
favorites and jalapenos. Spicy foods not only trigger acid reflux, they can also cause indigestion and
dry skin, making you even more uncomfortable.
More Acid Reflux Articles
Don't eat big meals before going to sleep. Stop eating approximately three hours before retiring. The
acids produced during digestion can cause heartburn and acid reflux if you lay down after eating.
If you experience blood in your stool or vomit, you must see a doctor immediately. This can signal a
very severe medical issues. Ruling out more serious problems is important.
Do not consume excessive liquids while you eat meals and snacks. The more food and drink you have
in your stomach, the worse your acid reflux will be. A full stomach puts too much pressure on your
esophagus. This muscle assists in food absorption; therefore, when it is under additional pressure,
food remains in your esophagus, leading to acid reflux.
If you are troubled by heartburn when sleeping, you may need to change your sleep style. Instead of
laying on your right side, it is best to snooze on the left. This could cause the stomach acid to stay
where it belongs.
There are millions of people that have acid reflux. In fact, one-third of all adults have some form of
it. If you are one of these people, use the above advice and watch your acid reflux attacks decrease.
