Smart appliances with multimedia capability have been emerging into our daily life. Smart appliances include washing machine, television, refrigerator etc. In this modern era, human being is used to intouch with this technology or we can say it as internet of things (IoT). As we look around ourselves we see modernization with superior technology, for example cell phones, kitchen, appliances and many more. It uses fast advance of computing technology and the wide use of the Internet, smart home is one of the most prominent areas of intelligent appliances. Kitchen is one of the places where such intelligent appliances are mostly used. Existing systems used high technology that increases its complexity. The products currently available are expensive so the user has to buy the whole costly refrigerator. The Smart Refrigerator module is designed that modifies any existing normal refrigerator into a smart refrigerator which is cost effective, using various sensors.

This project is intended to construct a home automation system that uses any mobile device to control the home appliances. This home automation system is based on IoT. Home automation is very exciting field when it uses new technologies like Internet of Things (IoT). Raspberry pi is credit card size computer. Raspberry pi supports large number of peripherals. Raspberry pi is having different communication media like Ethernet port, HDMI port, USB port, Display Serial Interface, Camera Serial Interface, Bluetooth, Bluetooth low energy. It allows controlling number of home appliances simultaneously. Here local server is created on Raspberry pi. The University of Central Florida has offered online courses since the spring of 1996. As of 2010, Online@UCF offers four undergraduate degree completion programs, twelve graduate degree programs and sixteen graduate certificates, plus 450+ online courses every semester from all academic areas. Over 800 full-time UCF faculty members have successfully completed the campus-wide faculty development course, IDL6543, to learn to develop and deliver effective online instruction. This session will provide details of our faculty development process that we have designed and implemented over the past 14 years. We will also present the lessons we have learned and our future plans to revise our training. These revisions are based on feedback we collected from our faculty participants. The nature of the topic is one that will generate discussions, and we will allow time for questions and answers from our audience.

The best applications today, involve multi-sensory – HD graphics and quality sound are no longer sufficient to stand out from the crowd. We find that not being able to feel simple UI elements like a button input is actually a big deal. In this session Immersion’s Haptic Expert Team will explain some of the science behind why our sense of touch is so important to mobile interactions as well as give you practical steps to follow when designing tactile feedback into your software projects. The rapid expansion of the Internet of Things has fostered convenience and connectedness for consumers. It has also opened the door for creative hackers. Recently, hackers used hundreds of thousands of common internet-connected devices in consumers’ homes, without the owners’ knowledge, to launch a DDoS attack that temporarily brought down crucial parts of the internet’s infrastructure. Attacks in the past have shown that passwords in IoT devices provide insufficient security. Additionally, IoT devices are too constrained for implementing biometric functions. The question then becomes how to authenticate to such devices and can the industry adopt a standardized approach despite a highly fragmented IoT landscape. This presentation by Rolf Lindemann of Nok Nok Labs, explores how FIDO Authentication can provide convenient and strong authentication in an array of IoT use cases.

Tracing the root cause of a performance issue requires a lot of patience, experience, and focus. It’s so hard that we sometimes attempt to guess by trying out tentative fixes, but that usually results in frustration, messy code, and a considerable waste of time and money. This talk explains how to correctly zoom in on a performance bottleneck using three levels of profiling: distributed tracing, metrics, and method profiling. After we learn to read the JVM profiler output as a flame graph, we explore a series of bottlenecks typical for backend systems, like connection/thread pool starvation, invisible aspects, blocking code, hot CPU methods, lock contention, and Virtual Thread pinning, and we learn to trace them even if they occur in library code you are not familiar with.
