Evaluation 2
1. 2. How does your media
product represent
particular social groups?
Natasha Newton
2. As a whole
My media product as a whole represents its particular social
group as it includes many of the features that its target audience
liked, as found from a questionnaire I conducted in research
before creating the magazine.
From the research, I found that my magazine should be aimed at
females more than males, which is why I chose to include my
double page spread feature about an all girl folk band as it gives
the target audience a role model to look up to or aspire to be
like, which is important as it creates a relationship between the
reader and author.
3. The features
Also, from my questionnaire it was apparent that the most
popular feature to be included within the double page spread
was ‘about the band’ so my final product will represent the
target audience because it includes the features that they want
to read about, which makes them more likely to buy the
magazine.
4. Colour schemes and layout
My media product also represents the social groups it is aimed
at because of the colour scheme and layout featured
throughout. As the target audience is women between the ages
of 20 and 30 it is important that the magazine is not as
overwhelming as magazines aimed at younger audiences would
be. I ensured that this did not happen by using simple layouts
and a mainly black and white colour scheme with only one
brighter colour to ensure that bright colourings did not
overwhelm the pages.
5. The Band
It was essential to ensure that the bands included throughout
the magazine would appeal to the target audience as if they did
not then the magazine would not make any money. To ensure
this I did some research into folk bands and acoustic artists to
include on my cover and contents page to make the pages look
realistic and to ensure that the target audience would be likely
to read about the artists as they are from their favourite genre
of music.
