- 1. Forestation Project2010 Planting trees alongside Mano a Mano’sChoquechampi reservoir to decrease erosion and preserve the reservoir
- 2. The trees arrive onsite, where they are counted and organized.
- 3. After being unloaded, the trees are grouped according to where they will be planted.
- 4. The tools for the job are set up – picks and buckets.
- 5. A 50-meter hose is connected for watering the trees.
- 6. Community members hike up the hill carrying the trees in bags on their back.
- 8. Community members plant the trees in groups.
- 9. Newly planted trees; more than 5,000 trees total were planted!
- 10. Water for the trees is carried to the site by hand.
- 11. The entire community works on the project. Education is key to ensuring success; without someone (in this case Mano a Mano) helping to provide a plan for maintenance it’s unlikely the trees would survive (this is what happened in a nearby community that planted trees with no strategy for basic upkeep).
