1. What have you learnt about
technologies from the process of
constructing this product?
Evaluation part 7
2. Digital SLRs
When we first started filming we used a bridge camera that filmed in 720p. When looking back and
using the footage captured on the camera the video quality was grainy the colour was too bright and
you could not control depth of field which caused everything to be in focus making our title
sequence seem less professional and tacky.
We decided to re film our title sequence to improve visual quality and used DSLR for the following
reasons
• Better digital sensor
• Able to control depth of field due to manual focus
• Less grain
Re-filming with DSLRs was a huge improvement to the quality of our media product and from this I learnt
that being able to control a cameras focus in filming impacts on how good and clear the end result is.
Changing the focus distorts back ground so only what you want the audience to see becomes relevant.
3. Final cut pro
To put together and edit our title sequence me and Michael decided to use
final cut pro. The software was readily available to us in school where we
worked. Throughout the construction of our project I have learnt how to use
final cut pro more as I had to green screen which I previously never knew how
to do. Although we did have difficulties with the software we managed to find
alternative ways to fix our problems such as our issue with smooth cam.
4. youtube
Youtube helped a lot during the process of making our title sequence it
enabled us to search for tutorials on how to do things, I learnt to use the
green screen through watching a tutorial on this website. Another good thing
about Youtube is that it is available on many media platforms such as phones
tablets TV computers etc.. This enabled me to use it when editing or when
filming if I had an issue and wanted tips and solutions.
5. summary
Overall I have learnt that digital technologies make it easier to produce
media products. Final cut pro allowed us to change things and put things
together in minutes making production time faster than older methods.
Digital cameras hold sd card with large memory which enabled us to store and
capture lots of footage were as a film camera need many reels and cased to
store things that have been filmed.
