Group 1 samasati nature retreat presentation

Notes de l'éditeur

  1. Known as one of the most environmentally sensitive countries in the world National Parks and Forest reserves make the amount of protected land to 27% Wildlife is abundant because of all types of habitats such as rain forests. Costa Rica contains 5% of known animal species in the world Been a popular nature travel destination since the 1980s
  2. Samasati is an environmentally friendly retreat that doesn’t interfere with Costa Rica’s natural habitat. Built/ first started to develop in 1994 The Retreat consists of these 5
  3. At the top you can see the mission of the Samasati retreat 52 workers camped on the property and built without using any heavy machinery. Some of the land was already cleared from the previous owner. When is was built, only “green wood” was used. This means that no trees were taken down, only wood used from fallen trees or local reforestation projects. The water that they use comes from local sweet water spring. They also collect rain water using a 50,000 liter tank that is on the roof of the resorts restaurant. For electricity, they only used generators. For waste, septic tanks are used for all of the buildings. They use all natural products. To wash dishes & laundry only biological detergents are used. Nothing with harmful chemicals. And to protect the wildlife, hunting is prohibited. This has lead to animals finding refuge from hunters on the property.
  4. Samasati accomodates all sorts of travelers They have an extensive yoga program for people who want a relaxing getaway They offer honeymoon packages for visitors that are just married. Most of all, Samasati offers activities & packages for outdoor lovers. These are the different activities & excursions that they offer. They also have some pre-made packages that include accommodation price deals & activity itineraries.
  5. Although the retreat is doing great in their practice of sustainability, there are other things that they can do to reap even more benefits The first thing they can do is educate their visitors. They should reccomend or suggests ways for them to live “green” in their daily lives. The visitors will leave with a greater appreciation of the environment. This way, the idea of sustainability will not just apply to the resort but spread. and have a lasting effect With the topic of electricity, Samasati used generators to build the retreat but now they use normal electricity. Installing solar panels on the roofs is a very efficient way of getting electricity. and there are plenty of other ways that they could cut down on electricity. To reduce the amount of water that they use, one idea is to not wash things as often. This is becoming more and more popular at hotels now. Instead of changing the towels or sheets everyday & washing them, then they could do it upon request. It is not indicated who is employed at the retreat or the size of the staff that they have But employing people from the local communities is a great way to support the local areas. Another way to support the local communites is to give the option of volunteer work to the visitors. People who do enjoy community service can take pride in helping while other people who might not find that as an ideal vacation activity will not have to participate. A way to apply sustainability to transportation is implementing the use of hybrid cars. Any time visitors need transportation - whether as a shuttle for the airport or to the locations where the activities & excursions take place. This will cut down on money and gas and pollution.
  6. These are the organizations that the Samasati belongs to.
  7. So the benefits of implementing sustainability to the retreat are as follows: Global recognition - this also has to do with marketing: being eco-friendly is great advertising because it gives guests the impression that Samasati is responsible. Acommodation - the destination may not be able to accomodate too many tourists Aesthetic appeal - meaning if the retreat is too simple looking, it may not be attractive to visitors. Its lack of luxury may not be appealing.
  8. So all in all ecotourism has more positive effects than negative and places like Samasati are always improving its sustainability and its surrounding environment.
