Affixes are bound morphemes that is attached to a free
morpheme to form a new word.
Affix is divided into two:
Inflectional = change the grammatical meaning.
Derivational = change meaning or word classes.
All inflectional affixes are suffix.
From the book Word-Formation in English, published by
Cambridge University Press, “It is impossible to say how
many affixes English has, but it is clear that there are
dozens.”
There are 54 suffixes and 26 prefixes (Hay and Bayen,
2002).
According to Stockwell and Minkova(2001), there are 129
affixes.
