Editor's Notes
Karen only asked me to be today’s speaker a couple of weeks ago, and in truth, I did not have one slide prepared at the time that she asked me. Since I promote my business only through one-on-one meetings where the presentation media is a notepad, and since I thought that view ability of an easel presentation would be problematic in this large a room, I knew that I was setting myself up for a lot of work. However, I did agree to be the speaker on such short notice because I am passionate about a message that I have been trying to convey on the role that executive coaching can play in minimizing the need to recruit leaders from outside and in helping retain internal talent. My passion comes from the regret I feel when I look back over what was objectively a very successful line management career, but still realize how much more I might have achieved, and how much more I would have enjoyed the journey, had I been as effective a leader at age thirty as I eventually became at age fifty. My message today is that it is indeed possible to achieve such accelerated leadership development through behavioral coaching that addresses the total human being.
