1. SUF
The city of rivers

2.  Location : on the western side of Jerash, at a distance of 8
kilometers, longitude 35 degrees 50 minutes east longitude, and
latitude 32 degrees 19 minutes north.
 Area : 39 thousand dunums, one of the areas of the municipality
Jerash major.

3.  Name: Suf is Latin word means
the city of springs, or resort , there
is more than 40 springs .
 the village was called also as
monastery Yasuf, and Kafr Yasuf,
and Yasuf.
 Ottomans named as Khanoukh
or Hanouk .

4.  At the end of the nineteenth century and the beginning of the
twentieth century Suf played a role in Great Arab Revolt and were
one of the largest conurbation in Jerash and Ajloun that make Suf full
of fluctuations and political events in that period. many of the men
who participated in the revolution and had been in contact with
Prince Abdullah Bin Al Hussein have become important later in the
government of TransJordan like Ali Pasha Al Kayed.

5. ALI AL KAYED

6.  Ali Al Kayed Al Otoum Born in 1875
in “Al mi’rad” in Suf , studied in Suf in
“Al Kuttab” then he studied in Jersh
school , traveled to Damascus to study in
“Anbar office” which
considered the most prestigious
educational institutions in the Levant in
the Ottoman Empire he died in 1958

7.  He built his Famous palace in the
Middle of Suf In the late nineteenth
century … the builder at that time in
Jerash was called “ attayan Mohammad
al Deiry” it was built within 4 stages ,
many of people I met said they were
take stones from old kherbit ; may it
were Roman Frederick Peake in his
writings thought that Suf is Deon the
neighbor of old roman Jerasa .

8.  The first stage of the building
was the main hall with cross
vault roof on the southern side
of the complex
 The second stage he add the
stables and another hall the hall
composition create a court

9.  The third stage : they go to
the second floor and add
another rooms
 The final stage was the chapel
on the west façade it were visual
attached to most of farms it
were there

10.  Ali pasha was a representative of Jerash then he become Mayor of
Jerash
 Ali Pasha Participate with Prince Abdulah I to found “Al Sharq Al
Arabi Govement” Which called later “TranseJordan”
 He played a Reconciliation role between Prince Abdullah and Kulieb
Al Shraideh after “ Al Korah Problem”

11.  Ali Basha was the Director of land area in Jerash
 Participated in a parliamentary system in 1923
 The first minister of transport in Jordan in Tawfik Abu Al Huda
government on August 6, 1939
 Fight with the people of Madaba in their war against the Wahhabi
invasion

 Prince Abdullah Bin Al
Hussein was spending about
two weeks every year and lives
in the attic in a the house (at the
western side of it), he was read
the Koran, and from that attic
sees the village and around.

13.  the palace visited by King Faisal of Syria and his brothers Ali and
Zaid Hussein sons, were greeted and celebrated them, and older of the
village indicates that supervision talked, exchanged crowns in the palace .
 Visited by King Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi, who hosted by the
Prince Abdullah Bin Al Hussein.
 Visited by the poet "ARAR" Mustafa Wahbi Al Tall

14. For all that The Ministry of
Tourism considered the house
as local political icon and
historical memory so they
acquired the house from the
heirs but until this time they did
not decide his fate or take any
action to conserve it .
