2. Artist Statement
What I want for my audience to feel is that if they could know by my pictures
how life is in Vientiane and I am hoping that the audience can understand my
life in Vientiane by my topic, which is ‘Feelings’. If the viewers feel the same way
as my purpose of this picture, they would not perfectly know how it is to live in
Vientiane, but it would give a brief about it. The communications I have used in
my pictures are that I have took photos where I go mostly in the weekends. And
those places are certain to everybody so they would know what we actually do
on the weekends. It would give people a basic information about how we do
and what we do in Vientiane on the weekdays.
The compositional Rules I have used mostly on my pictures are:
• Rules of thirds : Important things has to be ON the line.
• Depth : Could express the deepness in the picture.
• Symmetry & Patterns : To have things in patterns will make the viewers feel calm.
• Leading Lines : Lines can lead the viewers eyes to the thing that is really
important in this picture.
• Viewpoint : Rather than the eyes level, but from the other view level.

Description:
This picture has a girl leaning on the
rail/fence. The picture is kind of tilted so it
looks like something is wrong. And if you see
the girl’s face, it looks like it is worried.
The reason why I took this photo because it
feels like the girl is thinking and worried.
Because my topic is about our feelings I
thought that this picture would be right with
my project.

Description:
This picture has man sitting beside the
river. Perhaps, the man is thinking about
something that is really a serious problem.
We can see that the river is moving in the
picture which makes me feel that the
water is kind of like the man’s mind.
The reason why I took this photo is
because it just fits into my topic in Visual
arts. It feels lonely and worried about his
future.

Background
Description:
In this picture, there is a dog which is a
she. She is looking towards the Mekong
river which feels like she is thinking about
something. I think she is thinking about
her babies or maybe she had lost her
home and she is worried. She had a
face full of worries and she also looked
lonely.
The reason why I took this photo is
because I could feel the feelings about
the dog in the pictures and that would
definitely fit with my topics in this project.

Description:
In this picture, I want to name it as ‘Never
give up’. Because there is one plant that is
growing on the road with trash, paint and
dirt all over it. The environment is not good
for the plant but the plant is still growing. I
don’t know why but I felt proud for the flower
that it is still growing.
The reason why I took this photo is because
even though the flower is growing well, it
would be worried because it can die by any
circumstances such as get stepped by
people or get ripped off.

Description:
There is the statue of the Lao
general, Anuvong, a sun, and three
men. In Korea, number 3 is the lucky
number. And there were 3 men and a
general with a sun. It made a nice
scene. The reason why I took the picture
is because it looks like the three men are
praying to the statue on the sunset.
If there wasn’t a sun, it would have
looked more formal, because I see
people praying in front of the statue all
the time. But, because there is a sun, it
looks more beautiful.
