At 8:22 a.m. 11-17 – Give to the Max Day more than $866,000 had been donated – only 22 minutes in! People were donating like to their favorite organizations.First time online givers“raising $1 online costs 7 cents, as opposed to 20 cents for grant writing or up to $1.25 to acquire new donors through direct mail. However, most nonprofit organizations raise less than 1% of their funds online. Since Minnesotans give $4 billion each year, for every 1% of individual giving that’s moved online, the nonprofit sector will save more than $5 million in fundraising expenses. That’s $5 million dollars that can be directed to food, housing, the arts, education, the environment, etc. GiveMN is continuing to cover credit card processing transactions fees,It’s a platform for people to raise $$$ --like facebook causes without all that other junk.

Some causes just won’t fly on MySpace. If your organization is trying to reach teens, absolutely! Music and arts organizations, probably. Same with labor organizations. Animal rights and welfare organizations, possibly. Human service organizations, probably not. No matter what type of organization, just realize going into it that MySpace requires an hour a day minimum and that training is essential.
