- Note to Presenter : This deck is structured in three parts: Part 1 – A runway that introduces the case for cloud. It’s intended to cover 80% of first call customer presentations as is, with remaining specialized content either being pulled from Part 2 or from elsewhere. Part 2 – Overview of Atmos features and compelling benefits for Atmos, Atmos Virtual Edition and Atmos-Powered Services Part 3 – More detailed information on additional use cases. Use this section if the customer has specific questions on Atmos integrations to packaged applications like EMC FMA, Microsoft Sharepoint and EMC Networker Script: Hello, my name is <presenter name> and I’m from EMC’s Cloud Infrastructure Group (CIG). In today’s presentation we’ll be focusing on the EMC Atmos technology and how it applies to your business. We’ll be reviewing the primary use cases for Atmos and deliver an overview of the primary features and functions that make this form of cloud technology a compelling factor in addressing IT challenges of storage today.
- If you spin the axis a little and think about cloud as a deployment model, most examples of cloud are “public clouds” or software as a service and infrastructure as a service external to your business where you consume them purely over the internet. You should also consider that those benefits and resources, like elasticity, easy access to resources and minimal management effort, can be available within your Enterprise - the so-called Private Cloud. Finally, with Atmos and other impending EMC technologies, you can have resources on your premises with the ability extend to an external resource for added flexibility or as another site to store added content.
- Cloud is changing the way IT is both administered and consumed. It involves the business owners, application developers, and people that work with IT to perform a business function. Cloud helps to both smooth out the IT lifecycle and in many cases, reduces the amount of time needed to get resources and get to “market” with functionality. Note to Presenter: View in Slide Show mode as indicated for animation. < CLICK> If you consider the overall process for getting resources from IT, many customers have said: “ I don’t want to spend 2, 4, or more weeks or months to get access to a CRM application, or to get access to the storage resources I need to build or extend my application.” The reality is, these users want to skip steps 1 through 5 and they want to get right to the heart of their job and take the application out to market and make it production and revenue-ready. Cloud is focused on: Getting access to resources much more quickly Being able to scale to application demand flexibly and elastically And in some cases changing the cost dynamics around delivering an infrastructure as a service A great example of this is from a company called SmugMug.

- The primary use case for VPLEX Metro includes migrations and relocations between locations over synchronous distances. In combination with VMware and VMotion over distance, it allows users to transparently move and relocate virtual machines and their corresponding applications and data over distance. This provides a unique capability allowing users to relocate, share, and balance infrastructure resources between data centers. EMC will also be delivering a Reference Architecture demonstrating a VPLEX Metro configuration in combination with VMware and VMotion over distance to nondisruptively migrate application between EMC systems and Vblocks. - Atmos is a strong platform for archiving, particularly across multiple sites and applications. In this use case, Atmos demonstrates its integration to EMC Celerra FMA, which intelligently shifts content from a Tier 1 NAS (EMC or NetApp), into an on-premises Atmos or an off-premises Atmos-powered external cloud. This type of intelligent tiering allows the customer to support high performance, low latency requirements with a Tier 1 storage system, while getting the benefits of a lower TCO Tier N platform like Atmos.
