Prepare a final report including suggestions for future improvements733425118745<br />Lab Technician April 2009-November 2009<br />FORWARD project, University of Alberta<br />FORWARD (Forest Watershed and Riparian Disturbance) was initiated in 2001, and has research watersheds in the Swan Hills of western Canada. FORWARD is a partnership between researchers, students, forest-related companies, First Nations communities, and Provincial and Federal Governments. We collect soil, water, and vegetation data from reference, burned and experimentally harvested watersheds to develop models that can be linked directly to the management plans of our Industry Partners.<br />The models we develop predict how watershed disturbance influences the movement of water and nutrients from forests to streams. Experimental work tests hypotheses relating to watershed processes that influence boreal forest soils, biodiversity, hydrology and water quality.<br />The Forward Lab Technician operates the FORWARD laboratory at the University of Alberta in Edmonton and is responsible for overseeing water quality analyses, data entry, and lab equipment maintenance related to the FORWARD project.<br />Duties & Responsibilities:<br />,[object Object]

Maintain records of all FORWARD water quality data and analyses.I am working in the FORWARD lab.<br />Research Assistant September 2006-December 2008<br />Chemical and Materials Engineering Department, University of Alberta<br />With a global reputation for scholarship and research, the Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering at the University of Alberta is recognized as one of the very best programs in North America for undergraduate and graduate learning.<br />Nature of the project: Study of the solid-state morphology of linear low-density polyethylene blown films with Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy<br />The project started from September 2006 and was sponsored by NOVA Chemicals Corporation and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC). <br />In this work, orientations of crystallites and chain segments in the amorphous phase as well as the relative amounts of tie molecules (TMs) of linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) were studied. Correlations between the morphological structures and mechanical properties were also investigated. Such correlation can be used to improve physical properties of LLDPE in industry. Orientational features were determined using a tilted angle Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) technique.
