2. What kind of media institution might distribute your media
product and why?
I think the most appropriate media institution to distribute a film like ours
would be 20th Century Fox. This is because they have distributed other films
such as Taken and Gone Girl which are both very similar to ours in terms of
genre, plot and target audience, therefore they already have knowledge on
how to distribute films like these. Our film is the sort of the film that is normally
made by media conglomerates so by getting a company like 20th Century
Fox to distribute our film, it would be fit for mainstream cinema viewing as.
Taken made a gross of about $150 million + and Gone Girl
made a gross of £170 million. As 20th Century Fox has previously distributed
films similar to ours, they will also know how to advertise, market and exhibit it
to receive maximum popularity. For example, they have previously shown
trailers and clips of upcoming thrillers before current thriller cinema showings.
This helps to basically advertise your thriller film to people
who clearly have an interest in thriller films and is an example
of why 20th Century Fox would be the media institution that
could distribute our media product.
3. Who would be the audience for your media product?
I think the audience for our film would be teenagers and adults therefore the
rating would be a 15.
Language
There may be strong language. Very strong language may be permitted,
depending on the manner in which it is used, who is using the language, its
frequency within the work as a whole and any special contextual justification.
Nudity
There are no constraints on nudity in a non-sexual or educational context. There may be nudity in a sexual
context but usually without strong detail.
Sex
Sexual activity may be portrayed, but usually without strong detail. There may be strong verbal references
to sexual behaviour, but the strongest references are unlikely to be acceptable unless justified by context.
Works whose primary purpose is sexual arousal or stimulation are unlikely to be acceptable.
Threat
There may be strong threat and horror. A sustained focus on sadistic or sexual threat is unlikely to be
acceptable.
Violence
Violence may be strong but should not dwell on the infliction of pain or injury. The strongest gory images are
unlikely to be acceptable. Strong sadistic violence is also unlikely to be acceptable.
There may be detailed verbal references to sexual violence but the depiction of sexual violence must be
discreet and justified by context.
4. Who would be the audience for your media product?
I think the audience for our film would be teenagers and adults therefore
the rating would be a 15.
As the genre of our film is thriller, there is going to be some
violence and threat included, along with strong language due
to the chaos and frustration of the situation. This is the reason
why I think the film should be rated a 15, and not 12.
