Nick Scali Furniture Record Sales
With over 50 years’ experience in furniture importing and retailing, Nick Scali Furniture is now Australia’s largest
    retailer of leather lounges.

There are 32 Nick Scali showrooms in Australia, with plans to open a further two this year.

Interestingly, Nick Scali have not proceeded with an online sales platform - going against the trend of most other
large furniture retailers. Despite this, Nick Scali has posted record profit results from the half year to December
2012 and a 17 percent increase in sales.

Managing director of the company, Mr Anthony Scali, said the result was excellent in an otherwise flat retailing
    market.

“We have grown our store network by 20 percent in the last three years and strengthened our product offer at a
time when our competitors are either consolidating or closing stores. This was achieved with not one online sale.”

Mr Scali said the upturn in the group’s furniture sales proved that customers were still traditional when it comes to
    furniture.

“When buying a lounge, people need to sit on it, feel and touch it.”

Mr Scali said the company used online strategies to inform customers and its website featured catalogues and
furniture videos. But he said the online campaigns drove sales at the stores, and the decision to expand the store
network had been vindicated by the customer response.

“Our store managers make 90 per cent of their sales to specific order,” said Mr Scali. “Even when the economy is
flat, home makers want selection, quality and the expert input from the sales staff.”
